Devotion for Monday after Lent 1

“Therefore behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when they will no longer say, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought up the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt,’ but, ‘As the Lord lives, who brought up and led back the descendants of the household of Israel from the north land and from all the countries where I had driven them.’ Then they will live on their own soil.” ~ Jeremiah 23:7-8

The Israelites had rebelled against God—again—and had been taken into captivity. Now God promised to return them to their homeland, to the land He promised to give to Abraham and his descendants. We, too, have gone astray from God and sinned against His holy name. We can do nothing on our own to return to God’s favor—but we don’t need to. Jesus has paid the price for us, and we are washed clean in His blood. One day we will live in the new earth with God and Jesus and all believers. Praise God! That will be a glorious day.

Lord, I am so sorry for my sinfulness—for my selfish ways and self-centeredness and willfulness. Thank You that Jesus paid the price for my sins, that I am washed clean in His blood. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
