Devotion for Thursday in the Fifth Week in Lent

For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.

~ Romans 14:7-9

We like to think we are independent—self-reliant, in charge of our own lives, doing it our way. But if we love the Lord, we can’t live our own way. We are not our own. We belong to God; His way is our way. Jesus died and rose again for our salvation so we can be with Him, the Father, and the Holy Spirit in Heaven. Because we are His, He loves us and wants us with Him. And He knows what we need and He works all things to good to those who love Him.

Holy Father God, forgive me when I try to be independent and self-reliant. I know that I am nothing of myself. I can do nothing without You. Make Your desire my desire, Your Way my way. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

These daily devotions are available in a book The Grace of God, with all profits donated to Love for the Least to share the compassion of Christ with an unreached world. L4L shares the Good News of the Gospel with the least and unreached by making disciples of Jesus who make disciples (2 Tim 2:2) and by helping to meet the physical needs of the poorest of the poor.
