Saturday after Lent 4

32 But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 33 “Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come. 34 It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert. 35 Therefore, be on the alert—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— 36 in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!’” ~ Mark 13:32-37 (NASB)

The Word warns us to be on the alert for the return of Jesus. Not even Jesus Himself knows the date or the time, He tells us. But we must stay alert, be prepared, so no matter when Jesus comes, we are not found sleeping but ready and waiting.

Keep me from complacency, Lord, from thinking that I have plenty of time. Guide me by the Holy Spirit to live my life as You want me to live it, knowing that at any minute Jesus may come through the clouds. Even if Jesus’ return is a long way off, Lord, I don’t have unlimited time. Tonight my soul may be demanded of me. Whenever that day comes, Lord, let me hear the words, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant!” In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Ghost, now and forever, world without end. Amen.
