I’ll Be Back

January 6, 2009 by Lillie

I fell on Monday and banged up my knee and leg. Although I finally managed—with a lot of help—to make it out to the office, I don’t anticipate being able to sit here long.

I’m not sure when I’ll get to the office (a small building in the backyard) again so don’t expect to see a new post for a few days. If your comment goes into moderation, please be patient if there is a delay in comment approval.

I’m looking at this hiatus as an unplanned vacation!

Forced immobility due to a banged up knee is a vacation? You definity get the Optimist of the Week award! Hope you are able to enjoy a few good books.

Take care of yourself and don’t worry about us commenters. We’ll survive.

Looking forward to your full recovery,

Charlotte,

I get to read! And I’ve always found a positive attitude better than the alternative.

I’m getting better. I made it to my office again—I’m aiming for once a day so I can keep my e-mail inbox manageable.

Sorry to hear about that, Lillie.

I certainly hope that there is no permanent damage and that you are able to make a quick recovery.

I agree with Charlotte. Sure, readers and commenters need some degree of TLC, but I’m sure that we will all get by for now. You just worry about resting that knee and we’ll all be here when you get back.

Thanks, Andrew. I’m taking it very easy, but I need to move around a little bit so I’m trying to get to the office every day. It gives me a little exercise, helps keep me from being totally overwhelmed with e-mail when I return, and makes me appreciate being in bed the rest of the time!

Aaron,
Thank you. I’m having less pain and more mobility every day. It would definitely be better to plan a vacation when I’m healthy, but I’m making the best of the situation by getting in a lot of extra reading.

It is anything serious or did you just bruise it really bad? I sprained my knee once to the point where it was barely sprained but I could not walk on it for like a week. Regardless I hope you heal up soon.

Taylor,
Mostly I aggravated the severe arthritis damage I already had—a lot of bruising and tenderness but no broken bones. I’m getting better and hope to be ambulatory again by the time I return to the doctor next Monday.

Matthew,
I am enjoying reading. It does take my mind off the pain, and I can get pretty comfortable in the recliner. It’s just when I move that the pain gets really bad.

Sometimes it’s best to keep moving when you’ve injured your knee. I’ve had it in the past and it seemed to speed up my recovery…

Arno,
Sometimes you’re probably right. However, my doctor told me to remain inactive while the knee heals, and the pain is so bad when I move that I couldn’t move very much if I wanted to.

Thank you, Mig. I’m trying to get to the office once a day to go through e-mail, respond to a few that require only replies, delete the junk, and save the rest for later. That way I won’t be quite so overwhelmed when I return. I’m also responding to comments at that time.

But those two things are about all I can hold up to do—by that time I need to get back to my more comfortable recliner. I am making definite progress and hope to be back to work after my next doctor’s appointment next week.

Hi Lillie thank you, yes It has been now 2 months since the surgery, and I no longer experience any pain, but I have still not yet done anything that is very demanding on my body, as I am still giving it “time”.

The doctor said not to lift anything more than 10 pounds for 1 month, but I still don’t want to push it yet, hehe.

Lillie – hope the knee is getting better and your well on your way to a full recovery! I managed to break a bone in my foot last year and for all the frustrations it caused I’m looking at the positives – it gave me time to work on my web site and develop a great successful trading strategy I am very happy with. I amended my Forex book and did loads of learning which now I am on the road to full recovery I can capitalise on. Every cloud has a silver lining – so some say!

I guess set backs are what you make of them!

Annabel,
Glad you’re recovering from your broken foot and that you made something positive of the setback.

I’m looking on my downtime as a chance for some relaxation and reading. My office is in a separate building in the backyard, and I can’t get to it without help. And I can’t sit for very long—I need to keep my leg elevated in a position not conducive to working at the computer. So I’m just coming in long enough to keep the e-mail from totally taking over and to do a few things that don’t take much time. Other than that, I’m lying in the recliner reading—or sleeping. I’ve slept more than I ever thought I could.
