March 9, 2010 by Lillie
I have added the following short how-to e-books to Smashwords. The books are free through March 13, 2010 with the coupon code RFREE. Visit my Smashwords page to order any of my e-books. I’m also including the novels Dream or Destiny, Stroke of Luck, and Fern’s Fancies in the Read an E-Book Week promotion.
Learn how to find the information you need — whether it’s knowledge critical for your family’s health, intelligence important for the success of your business, facts useful in making buying decisions, or simply lore you want to know. Discover how to evaluate the reliability of the data you gather as well. Links to almost 100 sites useful for research.

Families often lose their histories through the generations, which may explain why genealogy — the process of trying to trace and recapture that history — is hugely popular. Learn how to preserve your precious family memories for future generations, whether you simply want to print a few copies on your computer or publish a hardcover book to sell to the general public.

You can learn to care for your houseplants even if you weren’t born with a green thumb. All you need to have beautiful indoor plants is to know a few secrets and to give your plants a little love and attention. Turn your brown thumb green and take pleasure and pride in your houseplants.
If you’re confused about e-book formats, you’ll find a handy matrix at Wordsupply showing what programs/devices read various e-book formats.
Don’t forget to visit Read an E-Book Week and Smashwords for more free e-books this week … after you’ve checked out all my free e-books.

I am downloading the 2nd and 3rd, first one looks ‘not-so-concrete’
Do you think sites like Genie and MyHeritage and facebook apps that make family tree might help people write family histories?
.-= Chris@Traffic Ultimatum´s last blog ..Traffic Ultimatum – More Traffic = More Money =-.
Chris,
Interesting observation that the research e-book is not-so-concrete. In one sense it isn’t: it’s not geared for a specific type of research. However, it is quite concrete in giving specific sources of information and how to use them, including three case studies, and it includes nearly 100 links to excellent reference/information sites, broken down by category.
Without addressing the merits of specific sites (because I haven’t used any of them), tools to help build family trees can be useful in gathering the information to write a family history. You have to know who your family is/was before you can create the history, but you need much more than that.
I just came across your blog today and I think it’s cool that you have already written several E books. I will download a couple of it and check it out later. Do you ever plan to publish any of them in a bookstore and have printed hard copies?
April,
The how-to e-books are not appropriate for print because they include a lot of links and need to be updated regularly. That’s one of the real advantages of e-books—they can be kept up-to-date, where a print book with information like this can become outdated during the time it takes to print and distribute.
My romantic mystery Dream or Destiny is in paperback. Stroke of Luck was previously in print but is out of print now and available only as an e-book.
These are really good e-books..(free)…will download “the secrets of fantastic houseplants”
John,
I hope you enjoy it and find it helpful. I wrote an early version of this for the customers in my plant store more than 30 years ago.
I just downloaded Dream or Destiny. Last week, I already got Trapped by Love. Thank you for these gifts.
You’re welcome, Ron. Hope you enjoy them!
All these E books are very good and I want to get all as, I have some favorite writter’s novel that is The note book, which is my favorite.
rachel,
I doubt you’ll find The Notebook in the free giveaway, but I hope you will find other authors you like. Maybe me?
Interestingly, I missed out on the deal, but a friend of mine was telling me about The Secrets of Fantastic House Plants. QFC ( a local supermarket chain ) had a sale a week ago in their floral department, and a neighbor was talking about having found an ebook on the internet that showed her how to keep them alive.
Small world!!
.-= Forrest´s last blog ..Granite Mountain Lookout =-.
Small world, indeed, Forrest. Around 50 copies of the plant guide were downloaded during Read an E-Book Week, so it’s interesting that you had a conversation with one of those 50 people.
I just missed the deadline for the free e-books. Is there any chance you will put them back up? If not, they are very affordable around $3 so I can just buy them.
Stephanie.
I don’t anticipate offering them for free again until next year’s Read an E-Book Week. As you say, though, the how-to guides are only $3 each.
Wow, I never knew something like this until now. I think I’m downloading this plant book. I love to plant. Thank you very much.
Nelma,
Too bad you’re too late for the free download for Read an E-Book Week.
