Devotion for the Second Sunday in Lent

Thus says the Lord,
“A voice is heard in Ramah,
Lamentation and bitter weeping.
Rachel is weeping for her children;
She refuses to be comforted for her children,
Because they are no more.”

~ Jeremiah 31:15

Some people think their faith should shield them from problems and loss. But the Bible doesn’t tell us that. Death and loss, pain and suffering, fear and worry, sorrow and mourning are all part of this earthly life. We will have tribulation in this world, but the good news is that Jesus has overcome the world.

Lord, just as Jesus asked if it were possible that the cup of His torture and death be taken from Him, I would avoid hurt and unhappiness if I could. Yet if Jesus accepted Your will and suffered for my sake, I can accept Your will in any trials I go through. Give me strength and comfort, knowing that whatever suffering I experience in this life is nothing compared to the glory of eternity with You. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
