Devotion for the Second Day of Christmas 2012

On the Second Day of Christmas, we remember St. John, Apostle and Evangelist, the disciple “whom Jesus loved.”

Revelation 1:1-3 (ESV)

1 The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.

Lord God, today we remember St. John, who bore witness—especially in his Gospel and in the Book of Revelation—to You and to Jesus Christ, who described Jesus as the Light of the World, and who suffered for His witness. Give us the courage and desire to bear witness to the truth of Your Word, no matter what the cost to us. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
