Happy Birthday, America!
July 4, 2012 by Lillie
Today as we celebrate Independence Day, let us remember the sacrifices of our founding fathers and of those who have fought for our freedom throughout our history.
ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favour and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honourable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogancy, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ~ 1928 Book of Common Prayer

Thank you for this beautiful post! We should all take a moment and really feel this touching prayer!
Dana,
The prayer focuses on us being better people and our nation becoming a better country rather than things we usually pray for to make our lives easier and happier, rather than better.
Being from Australia, we sometimes forget the achievements of other countries so it was nice to listen to the video and heartfelt prayers in it.
Agree with you, Lille, on refocusing on the important stuff instead of ourselves which we all tend to do.
Martin,
Most of us know far too little about other countries and other cultures. The Internet gives an opportunity to interact with people we wouldn’t otherwise meet.
And isn’t that such a truly marvellous thing, Lillie?
Wow, how far we’ve come to be able to connect to total strangers and become friendly with those in far away lands. Pretty cool really.
It really is amazing and cool, Martin.
Hey Lillie,
I was wondering whether you could assist me now?
I’ve got a Google Penguin slap against my site at the moment and it turns out that part of it concerns keywords in comment names as well as using KeywordLuv as well.
So how can you help me?
is there any possibility of you changing the comment name in my comments to ‘Martin Cooney’?
The easiest way would be via ‘Comments’ in the Admin WP panel, search for thegeek@geekandjock.com and change them quickly from there.
You might also notice a ‘Remove KeywordLuv’ link if that’s ever been used. Do please remove those as well.
It would be very appreciated if you could do this for me as I really would love to get out of this ongoing issue which has been going on for more than 9 months now and little help from Google in telling me what I really need to do – sheesh.
Thanks if you can do this.
Martin,
I didn’t find anything that didn’t have your name as the name.
Hey Lillie,
It’s the KeywordLuv part thats being added that is my problem.
So the ‘Relationship Help’ and ‘Dating Tips’ parts that Google is slapping me for.
If you do a search for my email of thegeek@geekandjock.com, you should be either able to edit the name and remove those bits or if it’s CommentLuv Premium, there’ll be a ‘Remove KeywordLuv’ area or mouse-over.
Let me know how you go and I’ll help further if I can or email me directly too, if you like.
Okay, I found two and just deleted the @…
It’s really nice post. Let’s pray for a better country.
Gina,
Let’s pray for a better world.
Did you know here in Sweden a lot of people celebrate 4th of July? You see Facebook updates with greetings and then people go on picnics and meet up to celebrate. We don’t celebrate our own national day (June 6th) that much. It just recently became a holiday but people celebrate Norway’s national day even more.
I did not know that, Liza. Very interesting.
I hope it is not yet late for me to post my comment for this category Lillie. Nowadays we often forget the true meaning of Independence Day and teens usually label that day as an ordinary holiday but if you look back in history you will see that this day is something to treasure.
Never too late, Jane! Unfortunately, too many young people (and some not so young) don’t know enough about history to appreciate the significance.
Hi! I write from Poland, which had it’s modern constitution as a second contry in the world (after USA) and first in Europe. So I feel a connection with your Independence Day. Good luck!
Thomas,
I did not know that about Poland. I appreciate your bringing it to my attention.
Happy 4th of July! This is one of the best holidays in America where we can spend time with family.
Jane,
Spending time with family and celebrating our country’s birthday make for a great day.
Did you have a good Independence Day Lillie?
Very nice, thank you, Christopher.
Good good
Christopher,
I try to make every day a good day. I think attitude makes a big difference. We can’t control what happens to us, but we can control how we react to it.
A bit late but happy indepence day to you guys, hope you all had a great day. Wish us British had a good day to remember like you lot
Rob,
Ya’ll have so much history, it would be hard to pick the most significant.
I have a certain sense (or perhaps a great sense) of understanding, what it means to be independent and free seeing to it that I come from a country with a very dreaded history: South-Africa.
I’d like to wish you a warm year ahead in the light that after so many decades you still celebrate and have one of (sorry the biggest and greatest!) democracy and valued rights in the world.
It’s just that so many people can so easily forget with the new generations coming and the older going about HOW a great country began and what it cost to get it to what it has become.
It’s these type of days, America’s Independence Day, that reminds one of WHY it’s important to be a patriot and sheer existence within a nation.
You truly have a great country and nation to look up to Lillie and I just wish all Americans the best wishes.
From Jason Jumat, a South-African.
Thank you, Jason, for reminding us of how blessed we are. As you say, all of us but especially the younger generation tend to take our freedom for granted and forget the sacrifices that have been made for those freedoms.
My prayer is that all people around the world, especially those who have suffered so much, will come to experience freedom and liberation from tyranny.
The video was Great!!… and I love you Post It inspire me a Lot!!
James,
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
