Memorial Day 2012
May 28, 2012 by Lillie
On Memorial Day, we remember and honor those who have given their lives in the service of our country.
I remember a friend from college who was killed in Vietnam. On a trip to Washington, D.C., I visited the Wall and made a rubbing of his name.
So many wives, husbands, parents, children, and other loved ones have an empty seat at their family table because a military member made the ultimate sacrifice so we can remain free. God bless them all.
ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, in whose hands are the living and the dead; We give thee thanks for all those thy servants who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Grant to them thy mercy and the light of thy presence, that the good work which thou hast begun in them may be perfected; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord. Amen. ~ 1928 Book of Common Prayer

I think it is important for all countries to have a day to remember the fallen.
War is such a terrible thing
Christopher,
I would love to see the end of war, and those who serve in the military would rather than peace than any of us. However, as long as we live in a world of sinners, we will not have peace.
Hi,
This is info like that which reminds totally those days when they fought for many other people who were lived in their country and these were really good people who lost their life for others this is symbol of a perfect person’s life.
Sam,
Anyone willing to give their lives for others is certainly a good and courageous person.
All those people who have fought for their nation and country are great people. They are always in our thoughts.
Azam,
We should certainly remember and honor and appreciate their sacrifices.
Hi, Lillie. I am your daily reader but not comment yet. But your this post is awesome and great. Especially the video that you post is very nice. Thanks.
Khudadad,
I’m glad you decided to comment and appreciate your being a regular reader. I look forward to more comments from you.
Amen. I always have high respects and honor to those military men who sacrificed their lives for our country.
Jane,
We wouldn’t have the freedoms we do without the selfless sacrifices of those who put country before self.
Wonderful post. A beautiful tribute to the brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom.
Doris
Doris,
We can never thank the ones who sacrificed their lives or their loved ones who suffered the loss enough for protecting our freedom.
It’s the only job where your employer has the right to kill you! I am much respect for the men and women in uniform, mostly because it’s something I could never do.
Heather,
It takes special courage, commitment, and altruism to risk your life for others. Like you, I don’t have what it takes.
A belated Happy Memorial Day to you too, Lillie. It is refreshing to see that people are still observing Memorial Day in the way it is meant to be observed. In my local paper, there was this article about one division of troops who were never officially thanked or recognized for their service after they returned from the war. Now, 65 years later, those who are left of that group were finally and officially thanked for their service. I think we should thank our troops when we have that chance.
Dawn,
Yes, we should definitely recognize and honor our troops, surviving and dead.
You know I am glad to see all of the young men and women who are newly taking part in the military. It really does those who came before them an honor. We can’t forget the sacrifices of the earlier generations – their honor and their courage are the reasons why we have what we have in America.
Craig,
We do need to remember the sacrifices of all generations who give or risk their lives for our safety.
Soldiers are the modern day hero who will defend us from harm and will give their lives for the safety of our country. I salute them with ultimate respect!
Thank you, Jane, for supporting brave soldiers.
looking forward for the day the countries will no longer require a soldier to protect their country. Peace to everyone!
Marco,
That would be a wonderful day, indeed. Unfortunately, I’m afraid that won’t happen as long as we live in a sinful world.
