Armed Forces Day 2012
May 19, 2012 by Lillie
The third Saturday in May each year is designated as Armed Forces Day, to honor and celebrate all five branches of the US military: the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The observance began in 1949 after the military services were consolidated in the Department of Defense.
Armed Forces Day occurs during Military Appreciation Month, the month of May.
Thank you to everyone who has served our country or who is serving in the military today. Thank you to their families and loved ones who sacrifice so the military members can protect us.
O LORD God of Hosts, stretch forth, we pray thee, thine almighty arm to strengthen and protect the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines of our country. Support them in the day of battle, and in the time of peace keep them safe from all evil; endue them with courage and loyalty; and grant that in all things they may serve without reproach; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ~ 1928 Book of Common Prayer

Yes we should salute to them for their services which is giving freedom to us for spend independent life in county with unique security ideas.
Sam,
Although Armed Forces Day is for the US, it’s great to take advantage of the opportunity to recognize those who serve in your own country.
Armed forces are more than a backbone for a particular nation.
Maja,
Let us pray that armed forces everywhere are used for defense and not for offense.
It is the celebration day for US armed forces.Every nation should remember days like this.
Azam,
Yes, nations should honor the people who protect them.
Every night we sleep peacefully because of the valiant effort of armed forces, who keep vigil at night to keep us safe. We should be thankful not only to the soldiers but also their family. I cant imagine what a mother has to face by not knowing whether her son or daughter will return or not, will they ever see them again or not. May God bless all of them and keep them away from harms way.
Thomas,
Little children don’t understand why mommy or daddy is gone so far away. They may make the biggest sacrifice of all–not only do they not understand, but they have no choice or input into the decision.
So thoughtful of you, Lillie to remember and make a blog post about Armed Forces Day. They are indeed people we have to show honor, respect, and appreciation for the sacrifices they are doing.
Jane,
Our Armed Forces do so much for us, the least we can do is to remember and honor them every chance we get.
