Happy Valentine’s Day 2012
February 14, 2012 by Lillie
Valentine’s Day is all about love. We tend to focus on romantic love, but we can share all kinds of love with all kinds of people today.
Show your family how much you love them by spending time together doing something fun. Brighten your coworkers’ day with a note or a treat. Make Valentine’s Day special for an elderly neighbor or residents in a nearby nursing home by simply listening to their stories of days gone by. Spend time with your children looking at the valentines they got at their school party. Maybe even show a little love by smiling and sharing a few kind words with the most unlovable person you know. And, of course, share loving moments with your spouse or romantic partner.
But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love. ~ 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NASB)
ALMIGHTY God, we entrust all who are dear to us to thy never-failing care and love, for this life and the life to come; knowing that thou art doing for them better things than we can desire or pray for; help us to show them how much we love them, especially on this day of love, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. ~ adapted from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer

Thank you, David.
Happy Valentine’s Day Lillie!
The same to you, Dominique.
Happy belated Valentine’s Day. I think it is a great moment for me, to have people who care about love, life and family. By the grace of the Lord Jesus, I think you have shown that people who think about love in other senses than just man and woman and the like do exist. Thanks for sharing the post was very soulful.
I’m glad that you appreciated the post, David.
Hi Lilie,
Happy Valentines Day, I wish a huge lovable things to you.. And this season of love be cherish.”)
Thank you, Brown, and Valentine wishes to you also.
Happy Valentines Day to everyone! Love reading your articles Lillie and this is really a good time to share love. Let’s be thankful and grateful for the people who are willing to share and give their unconditional love.
Jane,
Unconditional love is a blessing, and we are blessed when we have it.
For me, what makes holidays like this so special is that many people seem to make more effort and take a little bit more time to communicate more with others — like you said, sharing kind words with even the most unlovable people you know (I did chuckle a bit when I read that, though
David,
It’s much easier to be kind and lovable to someone who is kind and lovable to us. But the people who aren’t often need love the most.
I think it is important to show your love and compassion to a lot of them out there who are struggling to make their ends meet, there are so many of them who are going to sleep empty stomach, we need to show our love and support to them also!
You’re so right, John. There are many people hurting–physically, emotionally, financially–and they need love and compassion.
Happy late valentine’s day, thank you for the ideas of spreading a larger definition of love for this year’s holiday.
Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day, Simon. And we can show love to others any time, not just on special days.
This day is full of love message that is milestone for good life.
Maja,
Reminding those we love how much we care for them and being told that we are loved are two of the best things in life.
Hi Lillie,
This my first time here. What a nice website! Hope you had a great Valentine’s day!
Cheers,
Nico
Thank you, Nico. Hope to see you back here often.
Hey Lillie, It’s really nice to speak of Valentine’s day in such a manner. Today many people think of the day only in the sexual manner and so the entire emotional aspect is lost. I think people tend to forget that true love is not physical but much beyond that. But media and other agencies drill in other values that teach the wrong things. Loved your post was very well written and had good intention as well.
Thank you, Jack. I just cringe at the ads that run leading up to Valentine’s Day. “Give her this gift, and you’ll get what you want….” Romantic love certainly includes physical love, but, as you say, it is much, much more. And romantic love is not the only kind of love that’s important.
Whoops, I think I am a bit late, oh well, happy valentines day everyone!
Maybe I am just 12 months early
Christopher,
You’re late for this year and early for next year, so you’re covered for two years.
Hi Lillie,
Not to be too curmudgeonly, but whatever happened to “Saint” Valentine’s Day? I’m not sure when it happened, but I think the secular advertisers made a concerted effort to rid the day of any religious meaning. Didn’t mean to be a party pooper!
Clarence,
I agree with you and thought about writing about Saint Valentine. However, I wanted to do some research and didn’t have time to do it justice.
For me, Valentine’s Day is not just a day to celebrate with your loved one; it is also a day when we can show our feelings towards our loved one by giving some gifts or flowers. One thing I don’t understand why always spend this day with your partner; it is a day of love and love cannot be bound to one particular thing, we can always spend this day with our family or show some love for god.
Mark,
Giving gifts to loved ones is certainly one good way to show love, and the gifts can be candy and flowers or they can be doing something special for the person or many other things. I’m glad to hear you spend time with family and God on this day.
Lillie, I hope you had an amazing valentines day. Another good post of yours. Unfortunately, we turned the valentine days to a shopping day.
Jennifer,
I had a lovely day. Thank you. Shopping can be a good way to spend Valentine’s Day if you are with someone you love and everyone is having a good time.
Good post Lillie, celebrating with our love ones, family, friends and special someone is the best way to celebrate valentines and other special holidays.
Thank you, Edu. We love lots of people besides our romantic partner, so I like to see the love spread around to all.
I totally agree with you on this. Valentine’s day is about making people around you happy, by little gestures, maybe some help or by gifting them something and making them feel special. It’s a nice feeling when you help out someone. I also spend quality time with my family.
Mini,
You’re right–giving pleasure to others brings pleasure and a good feeling to us.
We must say I love you to our loved ones as much as we can, but well not too much to the point that we annoy them hehe.
Villa,
I don’t think anyone ever tires of being told they are loved–as long as the person saying the words is sincere and shows the love in ways other than words as well.
Everyday is valentines day. Let’s spread love everyday for every single time is very important.
Edward,
I certainly agree that we should be more loving every day. But it’s also nice to have a special occasion to focus on love.
Really enjoyed this article. You got me to believe in love again.
Adam,
Glad you enjoyed the post.
