Second Tuesday in Lent 2011

And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” ~ Mark 4:26-29 (ESV)
Heavenly Father, I don’t understand how seeds grow into plants and produce food for us to eat. I don’t understand how Your Kingdom grows, but I do understand that the seed has to be scattered before it grows, and the seed of Your Word has to be scattered before it grows into Your Kingdom. Help me to live my life in such a way that it is seed for Your Kingdom. Empower me by the Holy Spirit to speak the words others need to hear. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

How I wish I could help in scattering the seeds but sometimes even I need to replenish my faith. Problems shake my beliefs whenever I am depressed.
R.S.,
Everyone needs to replenish their faith on a regular basis, but we can scatter a few seeds as we go through life.
Scattering seed is not glamorous work. We get all hot and sweatty out in the hot sun doing this back breaking work. But when we see the harvest; the aha moment of a child, the gratitude of a single parent, or the hope given to a person grieving a loss; we are inspired to get up and out into the hot sun, yet another day, to try to make a difference in the life of someone else… and its all worth it! That is what we are called to do…to model life on earth ‘as it is in heaven’.
Kathy,
Absolutely, and I would add saved souls when we spread the Word of God.
I’ve asked God the same thing in the past, and I felt like he really answered my prayers because it’s been easier ever since.
Megan,
God does indeed answer prayers.
