First Monday in Lent 2011

March 14, 2011 by Lillie

“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” ~ Matthew 6:31-34 (ESV)

Lord, it’s so easy to worry about the future, both personally and nationally. Yet Jesus reminds us of the birds of the air and the lilies of the field—if You care for them, I know You care for me. Lead me to seek You and Your Kingdom first and not worry about the future, knowing I and the ones I love are secure in Your care. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The past is gone, learn from it and forget it.
The present is now, be your best.
The future is changeable, but don’t worry about it until it’s here!

    Christopher,

Your comment reminds me of the saying (paraphrased–not sure I remember it exactly):
    Yesterday is past.
    Tomorrow is yet to come.
Today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.
