February 22, 2011 by

Thank you to the 129 commenters who left 218 comments in January. Your comments extended the conversation and added value and interest, and I enjoyed replying to every one of them.Every month when I post thanks to commenters, I get questions about how I compile this list. I have explained my system in detail in Compiling Thanks to Commenters.

  1. Thanks for the mention Lillie…

You are going to love what I have found for you Lillie, I hope you are sitting down!

People often ask if there is a plugin to compile this list. If there is, I don’t know about it. If anyone knows of such a plugin, please let me know. – Ta dar!!!!! Top Commentators Widget courtesy of Christopher Roberts :-D

    Enjoy your extra time!

P.S I really hope it works with your slightly odd way of running WordPress :-P

  2. Lillie says:

    Christopher,

    Great–thanks. Just a few questions:
    - I don’t really want it in my sidebar all the time. Can I put it on a separate page? I guess that would then keep a running tally–there would be no permanent links each month for commenters, right?
    - Will it list all 129 (or more) commenters? I see where you can limit it but I couldn’t tell if there is a max.
    - What is my “slightly odd” way of running WordPress? I don’t know of anything I do out of the ordinary, except perhaps the particular combination of theme and plugins. Maybe it’s just me that’s slightly odd. :-)

    • The blog I found it on has it on one page a year, not on the sidebar.

I guess that would then keep a running tally–there would be no permanent links each month for commenters, right? – Check the blog I found it on out: Ari Herzog

Will it list all 129 (or more) commenters? I see where you can limit it but I couldn’t tell if there is a max. – Any number of commenters

Maybe it’s just me that’s slightly odd. :-) – When you told me ages ago how it’s hard to get plugins to work and things to update because of the way you are running WordPress, I can’t remember the specifics :-P

      Good Luck :-)

      • Lillie says:

        Christopher,

        Thanks. I’ll check it out.

I don’t remember saying anything about doing anything odd with WordPress–I think I’ve just had some problems getting specific plugins to work in conjunction with other plugins I have installed.

        • Something to do with not being able to update WordPress or something like that… 3.1 is out now :-)

          Good luck anyway Lillie!

          • Lillie says:

            Christopher,

Oh, I see what you mean. I used the Fantastico script installer to install WordPress, so I have to update using Fantastico. It’s always several weeks behind new updates coming out. It worked great when WordPress was more complicated. Now I’m going to uninstall WP and reinstall manually…when I get time. :-)

            • Christopher Roberts from Social Blog says:

              Right, I get you :-)

Now I’m going to uninstall WP and reinstall manually…when I get time. – That might just fix some of your conflicts :-)

P.S I have recently sent you an email…

              • Lillie says:

                Christopher,

I realized I have the Top Commentators plugin already but it’s not activated. I tried it quite awhile ago and didn’t figure how to make it do what I wanted. Someday … I’ll try again.

The only improvement I expect from uninstalling and manually installing WordPress is to get updates sooner.

I have recently answered your email. :-)

  3. Henry says:

Hello Lillie – I always underestimate the pleasure I get from being recognized for something I take time to do until I see it happen.

Thank you for always taking the time, reading and commenting on your blog is an absolute pleasure.

  4. John C. says:

Awesome recognition. I need to start commeting more here!

  5. Scott Truman says:

This is the first time I will be commenting. I hope I can also see my name out there in the future!I am an aspiring writer so I’m in the hunt for a site that could help me improve my writing skills and I think I found the perfect site.

    • Lillie says:

      Scott,

This comment has earned you a place on next month’s list. Hope to see you back often.

Search through the archives in the writing category as well as under the series page in the writing category for helpful writing articles.

  6. Tom de lounge says:

This my second visit on this blog, I hope I can also see my name out there in february.. greetings brother.. :D

    • Lillie says:

      Tom,

I suggest you read more than this one post if you want to be part of this community. Please do not call me brother. If you pay any attention at all to the blog, you will see that I am female … besides not being a fan of people calling others sister or brother on first acquaintance because they haven’t bothered to learn their name. :-)

  7. Thanks, as always, Lillie, for the recognition and link to Writer’s Notes!

  8. Lillie, thank you so much for including me. And you are so very welcome. I enjoy reading your blog — when I have the chance! I’m sorry for taking so long to thank you. As you know, I have been busy. But I’ll try to visit more often. Keep up the great work! :)

    • Lillie says:

      Dawn,

I completely understand busy. I’m about two weeks behind in reading blogs myself. My feed reader is overflowing.

  9. Dave from plastic surgery Utah says:

Lillie, you are awesome for doing this! Your blog is one of my favorite places on the web. You always have interesting stories and then you do nice things like this.

  10. Sam from Steam Cleaner Reviews says:

    Hi Lillie,

It is great to see how loyal your are to your top commentators. This is a great idea I would like to incorporate onto my latest blog. Also thanks for the link to the post on how to compile a thanks list like this one.

    • Lillie says:

      Sam,

I appreciate commenters and am glad to thank them and recognize them. Hope the way I compile the list is helpful to you to create your own thank-you list.
