Scripture for the Sixth Wednesday in Lent

March 24, 2010 by Lillie

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. ~ John 8:31-36 (ESV)

Lord, I know the truth. Thank You for setting me free. In the name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Ghost, now and forever, world without end. Amen.

Scripture for the Fifth Tuesday in Lent

March 23, 2010 by Lillie

So they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning. I have much to say about you and much to judge, but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.” They did not understand that he had been speaking to them about the Father. So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.” As he was saying these things, many believed in him. ~ John 8:25-30 (ESV)

Heavenly Father, Jesus was One with You, yet He did nothing on His own authority but always did what was pleasing to You. Guide me in Your paths, Lord, that I may always do what is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture for the Fifth Monday in Lent

March 22, 2010 by Lillie

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” So the Pharisees said to him, “You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true.” Jesus answered, “Even if I do bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. Yet even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for it is not I alone who judge, but I and the Father who sent me. In your Law it is written that the testimony of two people is true. I am the one who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.” They said to him therefore, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” These words he spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come. ~ John 8:12-20 (ESV)

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to be the Light of the World. Keep me always in the Light and knowledge of You. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Scripture for the Fifth Sunday in Lent

March 21, 2010 by Lillie

The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.” ~ Luke 8:3-11 (ESV)

Lord God, how easy it is for me to condemn others, but Jesus taught us that no one who has sinned can condemn another sinner. He, who was without sin, did not condemn the sinful woman. He showed compassion but He also told her to “sin no more.” Help me to walk away from other sinners without casting a stone, and help me to “sin to more.” In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Scripture for the Fifth Saturday in Lent

March 20, 2010 by Lillie

When they heard these words, some of the people said, “This really is the Prophet.” Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” So there was a division among the people over him. Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. ~ John 7:40-44 (ESV)

Lord, I know that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior of the World. He gave His life for my sins. Let there be no division in my heart or in my life. Let me be devoted to You—Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

Prolific Blogger Award

March 19, 2010 by Lillie

Helen Ginger at Straight from Hel honored me with the Prolific Blogger Award.

Helen blogs every day, while I usually blog three days a week. During Lent, as I did during Advent, I’m posting a daily Scripture, but I would find it difficult to to write a full post every day. So my hat’s off to Helen and other daily bloggers.

I’m supposed to recognize seven other prolific blogs. Although the criteria for choosing these bloggers for the award is that they blog prolifically, as a bonus, they all write blogs well worth reading. I hope you’ll stop by their blogs to see how prolific and  entertaining/ informative/ fun/ worthwhile they are.

Bluestocking at The Bluestocking Guide
Dominique at 4 Walls and a View
Georganna at A Writer’s Edge
Karen at Books on the Knob
Lori at Words on the Page
Marilyn at Marilyn’s Musings
Ronnica at The Ignorant Historian

Thanks to each of you for entertaining, educating, and inspiring me with your prolific blogging. If you like, pass the award on to seven more prolific bloggers. If you prefer not to participate, just accept the honor and continue being a prolific blogger.

3/25/10: Thanks to Cynde at Cynde’s Got the Write Stuff for also honoring me with this award.

Scripture for the Fifth Friday in Lent

March 19, 2010 by Lillie

Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, “Is not this the man whom they seek to kill? And here he is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ? But we know where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, no one will know where he comes from.” So Jesus proclaimed, as he taught in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I come from? But I have not come of my own accord. He who sent me is true, and him you do not know. I know him, for I come from him, and he sent me.” So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. ~ Luke 7:25-30 (ESV)

Lord, thank You for Your plan—the plan for eternity that included Your plan for Jesus’ life and Your plan for my life. Open my heart and mind to hear Your voice and follow Your plan. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture for the Fifth Thursday in Lent

March 18, 2010 by Lillie

But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen, and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent. ~ John 5:36-38 (ESV)

Heavenly Father, I believe that Jesus is Your Son and my Savior, and I believe that You are the Sovereign Lord of the Universe. Thank You for sending Jesus to take away my sins and the sins of the whole world. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
