Scripture for the Second Friday in Lent
February 26, 2010 by Lillie
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.” ~ Matthew 5:21-22 (ESV)
Heavenly Father, I would never physically harm anyone. Yet Your Word says I’m just as guilty as the murderer when I am angry. Help me, Lord, to show love and not anger, to sow peace and not chaos. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

I say Amen to the prayer. Anger is not foreign to me. In fact, I may have this baggage my entire life. I pray that I may be able to heal it.
Ron,
Anger isn’t foreign to any of us, and the only way we can deal with it is through the help of the Holy Spirit.
Yes, the reason why Anger is being termed very sinful because it’s the starting point of evil. When you’re angry only then you go to kill someone, or say bad words to your relatives or friends or others. When we get angry, we allow our lower-mind to take over us and do what it wants to do. Only when we’ve made destruction then we realize what we have done and we want to repent but what’s done is done….So don’t get angry ! I also have this tendency and I know it’s really bad
We should keep praying to the Lord to keep us away from anger. Also keep your mouth shut when angry even if you’re being peeped so many times because in anger we only speak poison.
Jerry,
You make a great point that we should keep our mouth shut when we are angry to avoid hurting feelings and damaging relationships.
