Scripture for the First Tuesday in Lent

February 23, 2010 by Lillie

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. ~ Matthew 6:14-15 (ESV)

Lord, sometimes it’s hard to forgive those who have hurt me, yet I want and need Your forgiveness. Your Word tells me that you won’t forgive me if I don’t forgive others. Help me, Lord, to forgive. In name of the Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Ah, yes … but it seems that it should easy for others to forgive me!

I love that – so true. I think it becomes easier to forgive when we take some time to put ourself in the other guys’ shoes. We’re human and sometimes it’s a harder thing to do than falling back into ‘why me?’ and gossip or pettiness… but thanks for the reminder.

Carrying those grudges is one of those things that hurts us more than the person we’re upset with.

      Merry,

Good point. It always helps to put ourselves in the other person’s place. And you’re right that carrying grudges hurts us more than it hurts the person we have the grudge against.
