Scripture for First Thursday in Lent

And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. ~ Luke 9:23 (ESV)
Lord, I want to follow You, but it’s so easy to get caught up in the cares and temptations of the world. Help me to put You first in my life. Empower me by the Holy Spirit to deny myself and take up my cross daily. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

You’re welcome, Jeanne. This is primarily a good discipline for me, and if it helps someone else, that’s even better.
I whisper the same prayer to you, dear Jesus. For I am weak in my pursuit to know you, follow you and love you. But where I am my weakest…you manifest your power.

Isn’t it wonderful that God’s power is manifested in our weakness?
Amen.. The scripture was telling us if you want to follow Jesus then we must surrender ourselves to Jesus. We must submit to his teachings and will. Its not an easy path but this is for the glory of God.

We often find it hard to submit—we want to be in control, but our lives are so much better when we do submit to the Lord and surrender the control of our lives to Him.
It is very easy to get caught up in the wrong thing.
