Freelance Writers Appreciation Week

February 8, 2010 by Lillie

I read on Celeste Stewart’s blog that this week is Freelance Writers Appreciation Week.  She didn’t give any details, and I searched for more information. Although I found several references to the second week of February being Freelance Writers Appreciation Week, there doesn’t seem to be much activity or information about this event. This has been the case for the last couple of years.

So I’ll do as I did in 2008 and 2009:

hugA big hug of appreciation to my fellow freelancers. I appreciate all of you!

Lillie, that is so funny! I heard about this week via Twitter this morning and immediately searched Google (using the keywords “Freelance writer appreciation week”). Guess whose site was listed at the top of the search results? Yours! Two of your posts were listed covering freelance writer appreciation week, 2008 and 2009.

It’s kind of cool that we get our own week. Virtual flowers to us all!

How funny, Celeste! When I searched, I didn’t see my own posts. Strange. :-)

Anyway, I had overlooked this when I set up my blog editorial calendar so I was glad for the reminder. Virtual flowers … and take a break. :-)

Jane,

Not much seems to be happening, so it would be great if you and your freelance friends got something going.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there is some kind of a freelance writers activity like an awards ceremony at this time of the year to really show appreciation for these artists? And wouldn’t it be nice if it gets institutionalized so that year after year, it will be the highlight of the Freelance Writers Appreciation Week?

Ron,

Someone needs to take the initiative to make something like that happen. Looks like freelancers are too buy writing and running their businesses to get the ball rolling.

Didn’t know there was a ‘week’ dedicated to freelance writers. I use 2 writers regularly and can’t thank them enough to be such a great support for my operations.

Will tweet about it, hopefully more people will notice.

Thanks for pointing this out Lillie!

I heard about this week on Twitter. I think it’s a good idea but it doesn’t seem to have caught on very well.

Laura,

I know—every year I hear about it and can never find any information on it. However, I take advantage of the opportunity to recognize my fellow freelancers.

Alan,

I don’t know why your comments keep going into spam. Just when I think I understand something … I realize I don’t. :-)

I never knew that there is such thing as freelance appreciation week. I have just stumbled on this when I search in Google about freelance writers and from the several results I have seen freelance writers appreciation which intrigued me so much. This is the reason that I am here. This is my first time to be here and I have well navigated your page Lillie. Nice to know you and your works.

I too is a health freelance writer. I do some freelance writing jobs for 2 months now. And great to know that there is a week dedicated for us – to be appreciated! Funny but honestly, I am also filled with a heartfelt joy about this. Never thought that this “freelance writers appreciate week” would ever exist and I am glad that it did. Hope that this will become institutionalized.
I would just like to take a quote from Albert Camus:
The purpose of a writer is to keep civilization from destroying itself.

Thanks for being one Lillie!

Benjamin,

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be much going on during Freelance Writers Appreciation Week. But it’s nice for us to recognize each other. :-)
