Prayer for Haiti
January 13, 2010 by Lillie
Haiti has been hit by a devastating 7.0 earthquake that has left tens of thousands of people dead and the capital city destroyed.
O GOD, merciful and compassionate, who art ever ready to hear the prayers of those who put their trust in thee; Graciously hearken to us who call upon thee, and grant thy help to the people of Haiti in this their need; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
I donated to Food for the Poor, a Christian ministry that feeds thousands of people every day at its feeding center in Port-au-Prince, and many other worthy organizations are providing help in this tragic disaster. You can find a list of top-rated nonprofit agencies providing relief to Haiti at Charity Watch.
I encourage you to include the people of Haiti in your prayers and the relief organization of your choice in your giving.
Added 1/24/10: I submitted this post to Bloggers Unite for Haiti, joining with nearly 300 other bloggers to provide information and to encourage donations to help in this terrible disaster.

The death toll is catastrophic. It’s awful.
Bluestocking,
It’s tragic beyond words. I simply can’t comprehend the numbers of dead and the total destruction.
I was in Haiti 5 years ago and then again a few months ago. Both times I was struck by how incredibly kind the people were. But there was one big change between my visits:
On the first visit the whole country had a dire feeling to it. On the most recent visit there was a palpable feeling of . . . hope. I remember reading a quote by the Haitian Prime Minister: “Finally we are pulling ourselves out of misery and into poverty. And that’s a good first step.” And that’s how locals seemed to feel about it too. Like they were taking a good first step.
It is unspeakably terrible (and, may I say, makes it hard not to at least question God) that a country that was moving *up* towards poverty, and was hopeful about that, should be hit with a catastrophe so horrendous.

Spot,
That is so incredibly sad. It’s hard for us to understand why things happen, but we just have to accept that we aren’t meant to understand everything.
This is really, really sad to see. My prayers for all those with family in Haiti, hard to imagine a country being so incredibly poor, yet so close to our own soil.
Mark,
It is hard to imagine and so sad. We need to help however we can. We just need to make sure that when we give money we give to organizations that actually deliver relief to the people in need as there is so much corruption and incompetence.
We will continue to pray and offer our support. Lillie. Bless you.
.-= Deb S´s last blog ..Help victims of the Haiti earthquake =-.
Thank you, Deb.
Lillie, my prayers go alongside yours. We are fortunate – our meditation group monks run a school in Haiti. We got word yesterday the monks are fine. Awaiting final confirmation on that. Our group – Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team, is already there helping.
Donations to any federally-approved organization goes far. I heard that the Red Cross received over a million donations – ten dollars at a time – from people texting in their donations yesterday.
Amen.
Lori,
I’m glad to hear the monks are okay and that your relief team is in action. It’s wonderful to hear how much money the Red Cross raised so quickly, and I pray that all the organizations providing help in Haiti receive many donations.
The death is really very bad thing if it occurs without any reason! & especially if it is in a very large scale !i am just thinking about those injured & homeless people & those children too who would have lost their homes & dear ones! May god protect them!
Jackson,
I also pray for God’s protection and comfort.
The situation on the ground in Haiti is simply deplorable.
I was watching Fox News last night and the reporter on the scene started to cry. He was overwhelmed by the desperation of the people and simply could not maintain control.
People are responding generously and the US government is doing what it can to help coordinate relief and establish order.

Matt,
I so admire relief workers that subject themselves to those deplorable conditions to help those in need. It seems that the situation would overwhelm anyone. Thank God we have people willing to put themselves in those situations. The least the rest of us can do is provide all the support we can.
So many people in so much pain.
I understand that jets flying in are stuck, except for military jets. No fuel to refill.
Even relief planes are having this problem.
There is also a massive problem with getting vehicles to transport the injured and dead.
If one has a car, it’s generally not working. If it is working, it is generally out of fuel.

Vincenti,
The tragedy is just overwhelming. I can’t imagine the devastation.
We hope they can withstood with this catastrophic tragedy

Peter,
It will take many years to recover, and the lost lives and much of the damage can never be repaired. But we pray the people who survived will be able to rebuild their lives and that the appalling conditions on the island will improve.
Amen, Lillie!
Thanks, Jeanne.
Despite of that overwhelming sadness that we have right now because of what happened, we can still be happy because of the kindness of people around us. This only proves that we are willing to set aside our differences in order to help others. Thanks for those companies, volunteers and organizations who extended their help to Haiti victims.

Harrison,
Yes, many organizations and individuals are stepping forward to help in this time of great need. We can all help in some way, even with a small donation. I really admire the people who volunteer to put themselves directly into the situation and provide help.
Its unbelievable, how vulnerable these nations are. It takes one natural disaster to cripple them. But it’s inspiring to see the immeadiate and large volume of response from all the rich countries that can afford to help in anyway possible.

Si,
It is heartwarming to see the outpouring of help and support. Let’s just pray that it gets through in time to save the people in such devastation.
You have a good heart Lillie. God does not like suffering whether they be Christian faith or not, they are all His children
Matthew,
Jesus Himself said people who aren’t sick don’t need a doctor. He came to heal the sick, console the broken-hearted, and comfort the lonely. He expects us to do the same.
What I saw in the news was terrible. So many people suffer. We really need to pray for them!
.-= Vic´s last blog ..Philippians 1:1-14 =-.
Yes, Vic, we need to keep praying and we also need to give practical help (i.e., money) as we are able.
We should really pray for them who died and who is still suffering the effect of this destruction.
LET’S PRAY!

Jahz,
Yes, let us pray and let us also give as we are able.
thats really a sad news.. i pray for the quick recovery in the land of haiti.
Shem,
Let’s all keep praying and giving as we can.
It is good that we pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Any donation to on or more of the aid agencies will really help alleviate the suffering.
Thank you for agreeing with me, Frank.
Haiti is an unfortunate event and we all need to pray for the peace of the souls lost. More than that supporting those survived is important.
.-= Janaki´s last blog ..Episode 12: Once Upon A Mattress =-.
Yes, Janaki, we all need to do all we can to pray and help.
As terrible as the disaster in Haiti is, it’s at least heart warming to see the reaction to it. While I read a terrible story about cruise ships passing Port au Prince, and while there are scammers out there taking advantage of the tragedy, the overwhelming response has been a desire ( by pretty much everybody ) to help. I hear this has raised more donations than anything except the tsunami a few years ago, and the feeling of good will in the air is pretty similar.
I’d like to point out that anybody who’s too struck by our own economic trouble to be able to donate (money) to Haitian survivors, can still help them by volunteering ( donating their time ). I know some major aid organizations are sending people out, door to door, to ask for donations, arming them with a web address where people can send help to the survivors…
.-= Forrest´s last blog ..Granite Mountain Lookout =-.
Forrest,
Yes, people’s hearts have been touched by this disaster, and it is wonderful to see the outpouring of help.
Thanks for the reminder that money is not the only way people can help. Everyone can do something.
I felt my heart tore into pieces when i heard that there was a massive death! And i heard that the people are literally hurting each other just to have food. I couldn’t imagine how awful could that be. Please let us pray for those victims and survivors of the killer earthquake in Haiti.
Jane,
The situation is simply unimaginable. We must pray and give to help.
God will help them to pass this bad step. We will also pray for them!

Julian,
Unfortunately, I’m afraid many Haitians don’t believe in God. They will be helped by many Christian organizations who are rendering aid, and God will help them if they call upon Him. But He gives us all free choice, and if some people choose to practice voodoo religion rather than to worship God, He will not force Himself on them. Of course, there are many Christians in Haiti, but there are many, many who are not. We will continue to pray for the practical help to alleviate their suffering and restore their country and for the salvation of the souls who do not know the Lord.
Peace To All In Haiti And Thank-You For All The World Help By Every Man And Woman.. “God Bless” Everyone As The World May Really Be Coming To An End!!! Best Wishes To All.
marie123,
Amen!
I still am praying for them till now. I hope that violence has already subsided and that at least everything is already under control.
Normalyn,
Desperation causes people to do all kinds of things. Let’s continue to pray for relief and no violence.
Yes, they do need prayers. For all of us who couldn’t give anything financially, prayers will do.
emmalynp,
Let’s pray for the victims, their loved ones, the relief workers, and the end to corruption.
Thank you Lillie for this. Countries all over the world is helping and praying for Haiti. I hope they could recover soon.
Jeanette,
I’m afraid it will take a long time, but we’ll keep praying for quick improvement.
I always pray for the victims of hatii, Hoping that I can help by doing it..
James,
The Bible says that the prayers of righteous people accomplishes much. With so many praying, it’s bound to help.
I pray for the people who killed in this disaster . Really it’s very sad that the earthquake came and killed many thousands people.
faisal,
Thank you for your prayers.
That is so sad & I’m praying for them .
Upul,
Thank you. Let’s all keep praying and helping any way we can.

Faren,
It is heartwarming that so many people around the world are stepping up to help. We just need to remember the crisis is not over yet and will be ongoing for a very long time.
The earthquake in Haiti was one of the high level earthquakes which turned the fate of thousands within a moment..beside the death toll to thousands, thousands other lost their houses, properties, offices, farms, and even worse..families. I am really depressed to know that we can’t do anything to prevent such disasters..
Parminder,
Although we would like to think we are in control, the fact is that only God can control anything.
Haiti is still in much trouble, and their infrastructure is still devastated due to the unique design of the city and terrain.
Still requires much help
Krista,
You’re right. There are so many disasters in the world that we tend to focus on the latest one and forget the people who are still suffering.
It’s so sad to know how Haiti have gone through the tragedy. I am praying that they will soon recover. Though its already been months since it happened but is still hurts especially to those who lost their loved ones. I hope the whole world will unite and help hand in hand to help all the countries that was destroyed not only by earthquakes but also by typhoons and other calamities.
Brian,
There are so many tragedies in the world. It can be overwhelming if we stop to think about everyone who needs help. I wish I could personally do more, but we all just have to do what we can.
I feel sad on this post! i feel sorry for what happen,I saw in the news and it was terrible. So many people suffer. we really need to pray for them!
steve,
My apologies for the delay in responding. Somehow I overlooked your comment until I was compiling my thanks to commenters. I had read, approved, and recorded it in my spreadsheet for the thanks compilation. But for some unknown reason, I didn’t respond.
We do need to continue to pray.
