Scripture for the Fourth Wednesday in Advent

December 23, 2009 by

Isaiah 9:2

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

Lord, we have lived in the shadow of death but Jesus fills us with light and life. May we never take for granted the marvelous gift You have given us, and may we make it our life’s work to share the Light of Jesus with the world. In His blessed name. Amen.

You show that you know the Word of God. I had no idea that scripture was there in Isaiah 9

      Matthew,

I did not choose the Scriptures for this series. I used an Advent reading program published by Creative Communication. Our church hands out pamphlets each Advent (and also each Lent) that lists a reading for each day of the season. This series is from a previous year because I had already copied and pasted the Scriptures and written the prayers and could post the series in advance. I’m using this year’s readings in my personal devotions and will post them next year.

I’m not great on remembering where Scriptures are located. I knew this was part of the prophecy in Isaiah, but I wouldn’t have known what chapter and verse it was. That’s why I love using Bible Gateway. I can type in a few words from the passage and find it easily.

For several years I had a health issue that kept me from attending Bible study at my church so I’ve done everything online for a long time. When I started back in “live” Bible study classes, I discovered I had forgotten where the different books of the Bible were located. It took me a while to find the passages, but now that I’m back in practice, I do a better job of finding Scriptures quickly.

    Thank you for the scripture.
Many of us have no time to think about the sense of christmas. The preparation for the christmas evening claim all our time and thoughts.
It makes me sad, that a lot of people don´t know, what´s the reason for christmas.

      Ian,

That’s why I wanted to post these Scriptures to help us all take a minute each day to think about the meaning of Christmas.

Wonderful blog post! The holidays are always so busy and time consuming, that it is nice to find an article like this to remind us all what Christmas is really all about.

This certainly gave me a reminder not to forget the important things in life are not just for the holidays, but everyday. Thanks! (link removed)

      Rick,
It’s easy to get bogged down in the busy-ness of everyday life and neglect what’s truly important. We all need reminders to focus on eternal truth.
