Scripture for the Third Thursday in Advent

December 17, 2009 by Lillie

1 Corinthians 12:25-27

So that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

Lord, as we are each part of Your body, give us equal concern for each other and break down divisions between us that we might serve You to Your honor and glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    What a timely scripture, Lillie.

I just finished posting an article about Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree program moments ago which indirectly speaks to what this scripture is all about.

I know that many prisoners do not know Christ, but their children are vulnerable and need to be reminded of God’s love for them at Christmas and throughout the year.

I see children as budding members of the body, needing to be encouraged and raised up in truth and light.

      Matt,

Thank you for promoting Angel Tree. It is a wonderful ministry. Although it’s difficult for me to physically buy the gifts (I don’t shop much for my own family), I have donated money to Angel Tree. For families, I think getting personally involved is a great Christmas tradition that reaches out to God’s children in need and teaches our own children.
