Scripture for the Second Thursday in Advent
December 10, 2009 by Lillie
John 4:23
The true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
Lord, make us true worshipers, the kind of worshipers Jesus told us You seek; motivate and empower us to worship You in spirit and truth. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

I feel that it is so important to be true worshipers, especially when there are so many hypocrites around. I can’t tell you how frustrated it makes me when people use church or religion as status, and I personally feel that many more people do it than let on.
C,
Our priest had a wonderful line in a recent sermon: Sitting in a church pew doesn’t make you a Christian any more than sitting in a garage makes you a car.
I can’t find your Guest Book that I am supposed to sign for the contest from The Books We Love. I also don’t want to say Happy Holidays. After reading The Gift, Merry Christmas. I am enjoying your site and plan to bookmark it so that I don’t lose you. I would also like to send your url to many of my friends.
Merry Christmas, again!

Merry Christmas to you also, Dhaval.
Thank you for your website. It is a nice reminder of what Christmas really is all about. Jesus is the reason for the season.
Thank you, Marc.
Yes, this is one of the most appreciated quote from John by our local priest
Elsa,
It is an important Scripture.
True worshipers are very rare, people often pray for something to gain, but when we pray for what we have with gratitude, that makes us a true worshiper
Frank,
I think most of us sometimes struggle with putting our own needs first instead of putting God first.
God bless this blog and to the author.
Lets all spread the word of God.
Merry Christmas to all.
Thank you, Benjamin. May God bless you as well.
First, there is the motivation to worship: “the mercies of God.” God’s mercies are everything He has given us that we don’t deserve: eternal love, eternal grace, the Holy Spirit, everlasting peace, eternal joy, saving faith, comfort, strength, wisdom, hope, patience, kindness, honor, glory, righteousness, security, eternal life, forgiveness, reconciliation, justification, sanctification, freedom, intercession and much more. The knowledge and understanding of these incredible gifts motivate us to pour forth praise and thanksgiving—in other words, worship!
Suzanne,
Amen!
Presenting our bodies means giving to God all of ourselves. The reference to our bodies here means all our human faculties, all of our humanness—our hearts, minds, hands, thoughts, attitudes—are to be presented to God. In other words, we are to give up control of these things and turn them over to Him, just as a literal sacrifice was given totally to God on the altar.
Monique,
This is an excellent exposition, but it seems that you are talking about Romans 12:1 instead of John 4:23. Or do I misunderstand?
True worship comes from within, when you are grateful to god for what you have and when you have no more lure in your mind, true worship blossoms from inside.
Pete,
Yes, true worship must come from our hearts and spirits.
There is only one way to renew our minds, and that is by the Word of God. It is the truth, the knowledge of the Word of God, which is to say the knowledge of the mercies of God, and we’re back where we began. To know the truth, to believe the truth, to hold convictions about the truth, and to love the truth will naturally result in true spiritual worship.
Russell,
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Worship is about love and adoration that is immeasurable by man’s standards. Man can not look on the heart and know its true intentions. God looks at the heart and even without uttering one word, you can worship God in the beauty of holiness.
John,
Yes, God looks at the heart, and none of us can judge another person’s heart.
We worship by how we live, how we love, how we act and react. It is the deepest conviction we have about what we believe and who we believe! Worship is not about a church or denomination, but humility and a self-less disposition, giving completely of yourself for the saving of souls.
Mark,
I’ve heard worship described as our response to our Creator in praise and honor.
