Scripture for the Second Tuesday in Advent
December 8, 2009 by Lillie
Ephesians 4:27
Do not give the devil a foothold.
Almighty and everlasting God, we don’t want the devil to get a foothold in our lives or in our community. But sometimes we let the world intrude on our worship and our service. We don’t participate in worship and study. Our prayers and devotions are hasty. We don’t like to admit we’re giving the devil a foothold, but we are. Empower us by the Holy Spirit to stand strong against the enemy of our souls. Save us from giving the devil a foothold. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Another way we give the devil a foothold in our lives, our hearts, and our communities is through allowing fractured relationships with other members of Christ’s Body to continue because we are unwilling to do the hard work of loving and overcoming the obstacles that divide us. May God grant us the grace and humility to truly love one another.
Amen and Amen.
Amen! i always pray for our soul. may God save us from the devil
elmer,
Some people don’t believe the devil is real … but he is.
That’s a great point because that is all it takes! When you start to let the devil into an area of your life even a little bit, it is a recipe for disaster.
C,
So true! A tiny foothold is all he needs, then he’ll start taking over.
