Scripture for the First Saturday in Advent
December 5, 2009 by Lillie
Ephesians 4:11-13
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
O Lord, our God, we thank you for apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. They prepare us, Your people, for works of service to build up the Body of Christ, but we they cannot prepare us if we do not listen and respond to their teaching and preaching. Open our ears and our minds to hear Your Word, and open our hearts and spirits to do Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

These servants of the Lord are definitely God’s gift to us!
Jeanne,
Yes, it’s wonderful that He provides the teachers and leaders we need.
I think that this is an inspirational scripture because it applies to all people and not just the church. All of us have the potential to be called as an evangelists, prophets, or even apostles.
C,
Thanks for the input.
I wasn’t able to visit the church and hear or read the scriptures these past few days in comparison to the previous years. Thanks for sharing this online. I haven’t seen posts such as this, allowing readers to pray at the same time. God bless.

Jeff,
I visit several devotional blogs that publish daily or periodic devotions. Although my blog isn’t primarily a devotional blog, I thought I would share these Advent readings and prayers and am glad you appreciate them.
