There is an old saying about war and which is often repeated on ANZAC Day in the southern hemisphere:

"Lest We Forget"

Any Veteran's Day or day which commemorates those who have been lost in war or who are fighting is a day to remember the sacrifices of previous generations and of the full horror of war.

Si,

The courage and commitment of our service members are remarkable. We should commend, honor, and thank them.

Risking your life. It's such an unbearable hard to imagine concept. I mean, we watch films and programmes everyday in which we see action heros and other unreal characters that smile in the face of death.

In reality, when confronted with ones own mortality - the realisation that it could actually be YOU. That your entire life could be ended at this point, is just unthinkably tradgic, and I have the utmost respect for anyone who serves on active duty.
