There is an old saying about war and which is often repeated on ANZAC Day in the southern hemisphere:

“Lest We Forget”

Any Veteran’s Day or day which commemorates those who have been lost in war or who are fighting is a day to remember the sacrifices of previous generations and of the full horror of war.

Risking your life. It’s such an unbearable hard to imagine concept. I mean, we watch films and programmes everyday in which we see action heros and other unreal characters that smile in the face of death.

In reality, when confronted with ones own mortality – the realisation that it could actually be YOU. That your entire life could be ended at this point, is just unthinkably tradgic, and I have the utmost respect for anyone who serves on active duty.
