September 18, 2009 by Lillie

10000My comment counter just turned over 10,000. Actually, I’ve had more than 10,000 comments (including my own) since the beginning of my blog. When I moved the blog just about a year ago, all my nested comments were lost. I have no idea how many comments were lost then. Almost all of the nested comments, though, were my replies to other comments so I didn’t lose many comments from other people.

Comment #10,000 was left by Louise of Brochures Printing Online. Thanks, Louise, and thanks to all the readers who have visited and commented. I enjoy the conversation and appreciate the community.

  1. (Eeepp! This is too high profile for me. Not used to being under the spotlight…. Haha! :D )
So glad to be your 10000 commenter though. I enjoy reading the stuff you blog. Seriously. :) Keep it up.

      Louise,

I’m sure the paparazzi will start following you any minute now that you are famous for this great accomplishment. I hope the limelight and adulation don’t disrupt your peaceful life too much. :-)

  2. Wow, that’s a lot of commentary! Must be an indication of a well-written and informative site =)!

      RW,

Either a well-written and informative site or a site that offers Do-Follow links and monthly thanks to commenters. :-) Hopefully, both!

  3. Rok Mejak says:

Great job on 10.000th comment. My blog only has around 700 but rising every day. I hope you will soon reach the milestone of 100.000 comments. I’ll be here to support your cause.

    • Lillie says:

Thank you, Rok. I can remember the time when 700 comments seemed like an unattainable number. Good luck with continuing to get more and more comments.

  4. Paul Hancox from copywriting blog says:

Congratulations! I’ll admit, I’m completely new to this blog. I was initially looking for KeywordLuv blogs related to copywriting, and that’s how I came across it… but having read a couple of your posts it looks like it’s one I need to add to my RSS feed. Here’s to the next 10K.

10k comments?? You got more comments than I got visitors, man! How do you do it? Maybe I should practice writing posts that are actually interesting.. =P

    • Lillie says:

      Roger,

I hope interesting posts have something to do with the comments. :-)

But I recognize that I get a lot of comments from people who are seeking a PR4 Do-Follow link. I’m glad to reward commenters with a Do-Follow link if they contribute to the conversation.

  7. Cath Lawson says:

Congratulations Lillie – That is a lot of comments. My Liz Comment Counter stopped working and set itself back to zero but now it’s put my comments back on there again.

    • Lillie says:

      Cath,

Liz Comment Counter didn’t work for me for awhile, either, but it didn’t revert to 0. It just didn’t appear—I think I upgraded the plugin before I upgraded WordPress, and they weren’t compatible. So I removed the plugin then re-installed it after I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress.

When it started again, the number of comments agrees with the number of comments shown in my WordPress dashboard, so apparently it’s working.

  8. Jen says:

Congratulations! 10,000 comments is a lot! I wish I receive those comments when i officially launch my website

    • Lillie says:

      Jen,

You can probably do it faster than I did. It was several months before I got my first real comment here. Do-Follow and KeywordLuv attract commenters.

  9. ndrej from Ahotel Bled says:

Yes, DoFollow and KeyLuv are the secret. Combined with with interesting blog posts of course. Anyway, congratulations to you Lille, I’m sure you’ll get to 100,000 in no time :) .

  10. Radford Brown says:

People would like to comment only if they like the content. it means that you have written great stuff, that is the only reason people are commenting on your articles. It is really great..

  11. Joe C says:

Wow congrats on running such a successful blog Lillie. I also run a blog which is getting busier so hope we can one day have our 10,000th commenter lol. Early days though :-)

    Joe

    • Lillie says:

      Joe,

It takes awhile to get this many comments. I’m sure you’ll get there if you just keep blogging and don’t give up.

10,000 is fantastic! And I have to say again how much I always appreciate that you give shout outs to your readers because this is truly an interactive and interesting blog.

  13. Kim says:

I just discovered your site – I got so enthralled in it, I forgot what I was searching for when I found it! Best of luck to you on your next 10,000!

  14. ack from MLas Vegas Foreclosures says:

Congratulations Lillie on reaching 10k comments. I sincerely wish this community grows to 10k posts. I know its quite unrealistic, but having thoughtful and good posts will definitely attract tons of readers and visitors will be participating more enthusiastically than never before. I am sure all those 10 commentators including you revisit this space frequently. I am glad and proud to be part of this community with my contributions.

    Thanks!

      Mack,

Thank for the lovely compliment and good wishes and for being an active contributor.

It’s taken me more than three years to write 600 posts—if I blog another 47 years, I may reach 10,000. :-)

  15. wilson says:

Congratulation for reaching the 10,000+ comments milestone, Lillie. Maybe, you’re going to celebrate the 20,000+ comments very soon in the near future… :)

Congratulations! 10,000 comments on your blog is no small accomplishment. I’ve been very happy with the response to my blog over the past year, and I doubt I’m that far above 100. Way to go, and keep up the good work – it’s obvious that a lot of people appreciate it.

    • Lillie says:

Thanks, Shane. I don’t think I got my first real comment (left by someone other than a friend or family member) for the first six months of blogging. It takes some time to build up a community. It sounds like you’re off to a good start.

  18. Peter from Forex Robot Reviews says:

Wow 10,000 is really a great achievement. That only means that your blog is so famous and a lot of people enjoy reading it and that includes me. Good luck to another 10,000 more.

  19. Mark from Current Gold Prices says:

That is a really impressive number of comments.

  20. i from SControl Freak says:

What you have achieved here, what you have built here is tremendous Lily. I often call people to comment on my blog posts within the article themselves, and yet with 150,000 visitors a year, I’m getting about 3 good quality comments per week!
.-= Si@ Control Freak´s last blog ..Leadership Mentoring – Developing Your Own Style =-.

    • Lillie says:

      Si,

For some reason, your comments always end up in spam. Theoretically, since I have approved one (actually quite a few) in the past, any new comments you make should post immediately. I don’t know what problem Akismet has with you but thought you should know. This has happened a few times before with other commenters—usually when they use keywords such as “free”—but I can’t imagine what the problem is with yours. I will continue to fish them out of spam and approve.

  21. Al from Lån og Kredittkort says:

  23. Pat from Dental insurance says:

Wow, that is a lot of comments. You must be creating some great content to attract that much attention. What is your secret?

    • Lillie says:

      Pat,

I hope the secret is great content. :-)

In reality, I’m sure the DoFollow, KeywordLuv, and CommentLuv plugins and the monthly thank-you posts have a lot to do with the number of comments (and the amount of spam) I get.

  24. John from Small quantity PCB Assembly says:

Superb job on reaching 10K. I get no where near that. I think my biggest blog has 30 posts, no where near the size of yours.

    • Lillie says:

      John,

Remember that I respond individually to each comment so in reality I have only 5,000 comments from visitors. The comment counter counts my comments also.

DoFollow, CommentLuv, KeywordLuv, and monthly thank-you posts probably make a big difference in how many comments I get.
