Patriot Day: In Memory of 9/11
September 11, 2009 by Lillie
The following video is provided by “The 9/11 Keeping Faith, Keeping Freedom Committee” of San Antonio, Texas, which is encouraging all churches to hold ecumenical services on the eighth anniversary of 9/11. I will attend the memorial service at All Saints Anglican Church.

Thank you for sharing; this should be a day nobody should ever forget.

Barbara,
You are so right. In addition to honoring the memory of the victims, we need to remember lest we fall back into apathy and quit being vigilant. Something like this can happen again if we aren’t prepared.

Lillie, thank you. I agree with Barbara, we should always honor and remember the lives that were lost on that day and the families that were left to mourn.

Karen,
Loss is painful regardless of how it happens, as you certainly know well. But there’s an added dimension when people are murdered just because they live and work in a free country.
Thanks for the touching reminder. I pray those affected by 9-11 find the peace that they so deserve.
Mark,
I join you in that prayer.
It’s amazing to think that it’s been 8 years since that horrible day. We are lucky to live in a great country like this and need to continue to support our troops who are fighting for our freedom every single day.
Lowell,
You’re right. It’s only by continuing to stay vigilant and continuing to support our troops that we will continue to stay safe.
Year 8 years has it been since this happened, support the US troops for the world safety, I hope they some day will catch binladen.

Peter,
I hope they catch bin laden also.
Time marches on, Lillie… It’s been eight years, since the horrible 911 tragedy took place in NYC! Hopefully, there no more suicide bombing happens in the world…

wilson,
I pray there are no more suicide bombings. However, I’m afraid that as long as there are people who believe that others who don’t believe as they do should die, the bombings will continue. I pray that the hearts of the fanatics will be turned so they demonstrate such commitment to good rather than evil.
It happened 8 years ago but is so fresh in my memory, just like it happened last week. An event like this is something you never forget..

raphael,
We should never forget. Remembering keeps alive the memory of those who lost their lives and keeps us vigilant to keep anything like that from happening again.
I cant believe 8 yrs has passed on after that terrible day in any of our lives. I sincerely pray for all those innocent people who lost their lives and their families who are suffering from their loss. Groups like http://911keepingfaithkeepingfreedom.org/ are doing a tremendous job to keep the good spirit to float around. I sincerely wished I could be a part of such humanitarian organizations which works for a noble cause like this.
Best Regards,
Mack

Mack,
There’s no reason you can’t get involved with the humanitarian organization of your choice. Every organization needs volunteers to do all kinds of things. Just look for a group that stands for something important to you and get involved.
I always appreciate that you bring up these relevant topics, and I cannot believe that it has been 8 years since 9/11! It’s also good to see that a fellow San Antonian is observing these important events.
C,
I think quite a few local churches held observances of the day.
So true, we can beat this new threat. Unity and vigilance is very important if we truly want to get rid of this threat.
By the way, the video sent shivers up my spine. And all I can think of is the heroism of those people on Flight 93. They showed how to fight for freedom in the face of adversity.
Terry,
The heroes of Flight 93 are an inspiration and a demonstration of what ordinary people can do if they resolve to make a positive difference.
It was indeed one frightful day for all the people in the world. The survivors will indeed symbolize hope for all humanity.

Jeremy,
Many survivors and rescuers demonstrate the resiliency of the human spirit and the strength of this country.
Oh, I feel so sad watching this video. To be reminded of the many innocent lives that fell victims of the 9/11 tragedy is so hard.
If remembering the event is painful enough, then I can’t imagine the suffering the family of those who died last 9/11 went through…
Louise,
I can’t imagine how the families felt and still feel. A lady from our church lost a foster son, and she absolutely fell to pieces.
Sad day for all the peace loving people around the world. I really hope the world will be a much better place without terrorism.

Ben,
I hope and pray we can get rid of terrorism and turn the hearts and passions of the terrorists to good.
The Anglican / Episcopal Church does a great job at giving appropriate liturgy and prayer in difficult times. Thank you for remembering the souls who departed on 9/11.

Geoff,
The memorial service that day was beautiful.
9/11 memory saddens not only me but everybody. Even if it was already few years ago, it left the trauma to the citizens of our country. Thanks for the post.

Jeff,
It did leave a trauma, and we need to use that memory to be vigilant to prevent anything like that happening again.
I just stumbled across this page with the video… Man, the memories of that day it brings back. I still vividly recall how united we all were then. Hopefully we rememeber that and how great it was to all be pulling together under a common cause.
Charlie,
Sadly we are very divided today. We should be the way we were after 9-11, united as a country.
