      wilson,

And I still haven’t got on Twitter. I finally made the decision to do so, but just have been so busy I can’t deal with learning something new right now.

  2. Yes. It’s a bit surprising but that’s reality. Social media is like eating our world. Most people are now addicted or becoming slave to this kind of technology. It’s not bad as long as we know our limitations and the rules.

    • Lillie says:

      Bert,

You’re right that some people are slaves to social media and technology. It’s one thing to do something for good reasons—it’s sad to do it from compulsion (whether from someone else or addiction).

  3. Remonto says:

No doubt – internet social communities are the future. But how to identify what could be next step of the internet progress? That’s the question, with no pure vison on that.

  4. Bluestocking says:

    That’s pretty scary actually.

  5. Stephen from free iPods says:

That’s crazy! I never looked at it like that, but I gueses this show’s the reality of the popularity of social networking.

Looking a bit longer term, could social networking be the answer to world peace?

    • Lillie says:

      Stephen,

I’d love to think social networking could be the answer to world peace, but I’m afraid there won’t be an answer until the hearts of many people are changed.

  6. well its all about social media.i just love face book though.it really helps to get traffic to your website.

    • Lillie says:

      jim,

I just find Facebook and others overwhelming.I go to my Facebook and see all the updates and think I just don’t have time for that. Guess I just don’t know how to manage my time.

  7. una from LBaby Monitor Wireless Camera says:

So where Twitter would be? Third-world country? I thinks it’s better to compare social networks with what country they’d be rather than mixing them with actual nations. They just don’t blend well.

      Luna,

Obviously I know nothing about this and have nothing to do with the creation of the video. I can’t even vouch for the accuracy of the information. That’s why I posted “Amazing if true.” However, I found it fascinating and wanted to share with readers who might also find it interesting.

  8. Annabel from Forex Trading says:

I saw this video a few days ago thought it was really inspiring and exciting. Is this how we will do business in the future? Twitter too is great to send traffic to blog or web site and build authority on your subject.

    • Lillie says:

      Annabel,

Sorry for the delay in responding. Somehow when I replied to comments, I accidentally overlooked this one.

We’re certainly headed the direction of doing business through social networking, yet Twitter still remains “I’m going to get around to it” for me.

  9. Greg Satell says:

Apparently, the Statistics are a bit fudged, but the phenomenon is real enough.

Unfortunately, while socialnomiocs’ author Erik Qualman may be a Social Media expert, he tends to be somewhat naïve and foolish when it comes to general brand management.

    • Lillie says:

      Greg,

Thanks for the input. I read your interesting article, but I didn’t see anything about the statistics. I’d be interested to know where they are off. It sounded so amazing I wondered but didn’t have any evidence to indicate they were wrong.

  10. C McCoffee from bodum chambord 3-cup coffee press says:

EVERYONE is into Facebook and Twitter, even my parents! If anyone has an e-commerce website, then they definitely should be using both of these features to build real relationships with their future customers and also draw traffic to their website. It is a mistake not to.

    • Lillie says:

      C,

Your parents are ahead of me. :-) I do have a Facebook page but I’m not active on it. I go see all the updates and find it completely overwhelming. Though I intend to get on Twitter, I just haven’t got it yet. I resisted it for a long time because the whole idea is overwhelming to me, but everybody keeps telling me I need to do it.

  11. mDee from ESelf Catering Holidays UK says:

Facebook is really bringing families back ‘together’, in a fashion. You know when something is really popular when your parents (60+) get into it, even if they just want to see wedding photos or how fast their grand children are growing up because they can’t see them in person if they live many miles away.

I guess we are social beings, so social networks were bound to be a success on the internet, it kinda shrinks the world and breaks down geographical barriers.

    • Lillie says:

      EmDee,

Your observation about Internet social network breaking down barriers is excellent.

Our church has a Facebook page, and one member described it as neighbors virtually talking over the back fence when they don’t share a physical back fence.

  12. Andrej from kühlgefrierkombination says:

Facebook is a great tool to stay in touch, although I don’t like to communicate there as much as I did a year or two ago. Since my not-so-close friends have become my ‘friends’ I just don’t feel comfortable writing a lot of status msgs that I would like to write. Twitter might be a solution for a little while. :)

    • Lillie says:

      Andrej,

It’s easy to end up with a lot of “friends” we barely know. I try to think of these people as potential buyers/readers of my books. But I have a hard time posting anything promotional.

  13. Peter from Forex Robot Reviews says:

Wow, this is amazing. I am one of those who uses social networking sites often. I am a big fan of facebook and twitter and use them everyday of my life. My day would be incomplete if I could not use any of my favorite social networking site.

  14. Gene from glass ny says:

If Facebook is the 4th largest, I wonder where Google would be.

    • Lillie says:

      Gene,

In terms of users? Although I don’t know how accurate this is, I think it’s talking about membership social media sites rather than sites than people use without registering.

  15. Francis from Murano Glass says:

Wow, great video! I thought it was all about figures till the end of the video but it’s an intro for a book. I would never expected that in just a span of 9 months Facebook reaches a 100 million users. I’ll share this to my colleagues and friends.

  16. Marc from cheap iphone says:

Facebook is a great tool to stay connected. However, just like anything else, pretty soon more and more spammers and scammers will find ways to exploit it.

  17. Toni from stucco says:

It looks like Facebook is evolving into something much bigger than just a social network site. Most major sites are now integrated with FB login options.

  20. Lillie says:

    scarlet,

I don’t know about Google developing a Facebook rival, but it’s easy to think they would.

  21. Jane Araguel from destin florida says:

I don’t think social media has reached its full potential yet. Imagine the possibilities. This is quite an exciting time for all of us.
