Mission Impossible: Book Trailer for Dream or Destiny

August 14, 2009 by Lillie

Make video montages at www.OneTrueMedia.com

This post is an entry in Confident Writing’s Mission Impossible group writing project. Joanna Young challenged us to post something on our blogs that we’ve never done before. I’ve wanted to create a book trailer for Dream or Destiny since the book was published last fall, but I’ve been hesitant to try. I don’t know anything about multimedia except that whatever talent I have is in words, not images and sounds.

Joanna’s challenge motivated me to create this basic video montage. Now I’m motivated to move beyond this to a better and more professional book trailer that I can post on video-sharing and book trailer Web sites.

It is a great idea to start a book trailer Web sites, I think many internet users will subscrib as a lot of people spend much time surfing the internet more than reading books.

Your video is great, keep on the good job.

Joe,

There are book trailer sites that I plan to add my trailer to when I am satisfied with it. They are helpful for people interested in books, but it doesn’t do any good if they only attract people who like to surf the Net. They need to appeal to people who actually read so they sell books. :-)

That’s brilliant Lillie – good for you for pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone. I’m really delighted to have helped give you some motivation to do this – I hope it really helps to promote the book

Joanna,

Thanks for the nudge with your challenge. I’m going to work on this a little more—actually join One True Media so I have access to more features and don’t have so much of their advertising—before I post it to other sites. But your group writing project challenge got me started.

Really Cool! I agree with a previous reply that more and more people are using the internet and watching videos, so good for you for constantly pushing yourself. I think videos can only expand your list of readers and followers of this blog specifically. You have given me a really good idea for our site. thanks!

Tyler,

I may try another at some point about the blog itself. I hope this one (after I’ve refined it a little) will sell books. Let me know what you do with video on your own site.

Lillie, this is wonderful! I am so glad you took our dear Joanna up on the challenge. Sometimes all we need is a little nudge to test our own boundaries. Great job Lillie!

Congrats on taking a rather scary step indeed! I recently did that myself (making a video) and found out…it’s not half as scary as I had made it out to be. Great job!!

Thanks, Barbara. I think a lot of things turn out not to be as scary or as difficult as we thought if we take the step to give them a try. Congratulations on your own video creation.

Great job, Lillie! I’ve never done a video trailer, either. Perhaps I should try it with my Jonah song! :-)

Forbrugslån,

The book trailer is designed to sell books, but video can be used to sell anything. People really seem to like to watch videos so it’s a good way to get attention.

Wow, nice to see you’ve made an adventurous foray into the world of multimedia! Its an old fashioned expression, but most of us (myself included) have never produced a multimedia presentation! Well done!

Simon,

It was really easier than I expected, and, of course, I didn’t do anything very sophisticated. But it was fun and exciting to do something new.

This is a pretty interesting idea, and I have never actually heard of a book trailer before! Great effort :-) It makes sense to try to engage people visually as well if you are working on getting them interested in your book.

C,

Book trailers are becoming quite popular on YouTube and similar services. There are even sites specifically for book trailers. I don’t know how many books they sell … but any time people hear about my book, there’s a chance they’ll buy.

Banner (if you wrote Your Name @ Banner Stands, I could address you as a real person instead of an inanimate object, and you would still get your keyword link),

Thanks. I’m going to work on it some more before I post it on other sites, but it’s a good start for me.

Thanks, Phil. I experimented quite a bit with different music and cutting it off at different places so I’m glad you thought it worked.

If a person can create a few strong trailers, those videos will definitely build hype towards the launch of a book…or any other product for that matter.

Good for you for stepping out there. The video is really good. Love the music!

Video is becoming an essential and I’m like you – I haven’t really added it to my skill set yet. But after seeing what you’ve done I think I’ll give it a try.

Thanks for the inspiration.
