Independence Day: Let There Be Fireworks

July 4, 2009 by Lillie

O ETERNAL God, through whose mighty power our fathers won their liberties of old; Grant, we beseech thee, that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain these liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Ohh !! I’m absolutely sorry for not wishing you on 4th of July.
How could I forget it..
Better late than never, ‘Wish you a Happy Independence Day’.
How was your day?
I saw all those fireworks on TV that happened in Washington DC, Chicago and New York.
Do you see Tennis? The two American Girls gifted the most prestigious Slam trophy to America on its day.
Yet I was so disappointed to see Roddick loose to Federer Yesterday.

Sriraj,

Thank you for the good wishes. If you had remembered on July 4th, I wouldn’t have gotten the wishes until today since I was on the farm visiting my sister over the weekend. So you were really right on time. :-)

I ended up spending my 4th weekend on the farm too, ended up having a great time shooting off fireworks in the wilderness, having a BBQ, and bonfire. Really makes you grateful for what we have here in this great country.

You are so right that God has richly blessed this country. Sometimes it seems that many of us do not realize just how blessed we are.

A belated happy 4th of July.

Among the various holiday traditions in the USA, fireworks on the 4th has always been among my favorites.

It’s amazing how ignorant many of us are (myself somewhat included) as to the history behind a lot of our major holidays. The majority of our Founding Fathers were men of faith, men who believed in Jesus, men who envisioned a nation that would have God as Lord. How far we have drifted from that ideal in just 200 short years.

Phil,

You are so right. Unfortunately, I think we’re drifting away faster than ever. It seems that many people think we should be a nation with freedom FROM religion rather than freedom OF religion.

I saw the fireworks in Chicago both on July 3rd (9 pm)and July 4th (8:45 pm). A lot less fireworks overall throughout the weekend than previous years but still impressive. They are getting better every year!

Fireworks are great on the Fourth of July, but the freedom we are celebrating is even greater.
