  1. Melanie from Money Saving Ideas says:

Wow, this is a cool idea. I should implement something like this on my blog so I can thank my users for commenting. Thanks for the idea!

Melanie´s last blog post..Getting the Money You Need From Your Employer

    • Lillie says:

      Melanie,

This isn’t an original idea—I copied it from another blogger, and several others I know regularly thank commenters. But it’s a good thing to do—it lets people know you appreciate their participation and gives them a little reward of an extra link.

  2. ussaibah from NOde to My Tainted Dreams says:

Thank you for remembering me :)

Nussaibah´s last blog post..The Path to Downfall

  3. Thank you so much for the recognition and the link, Lillie! I only wish I could have commented more than I did in April!

    Jeanne

  4. Karen Swim says:

Hi Lillie, I smile each time your posts arrive in my email. Sometimes, I get overwhelmed and cant’ get over to comment but each post always gives me a lift. I read often nodding and smiling after a “visit” with you. I am so glad you are here and even more thankful when I can stop in and join the conversations!

  5. Hi Lillie! Thanks so much for doing this every month. You really know how to make people feel special! My PC died a few weeks back, and I’m typing this from my new Mac! So I haven’t been able to visit as frequently in the last month, but hopefully all the kinks are worked out now.

Hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day!

    renae brumbaugh´s last blog post..Strangers

    • Lillie says:

      Renae,

Congratulations on the new Mac! It must have confused WordPress—your comment was held in moderation apparently because it didn’t recognize your computer.

  6. Leon Huang from singapore wedding photography says:

This is indeed a cool idea! It makes commenters feel so loved. :)

  7. Sriraj says:

Ahhh, pushed to second spot by Mr.Wilson :D
My Internet problems are to be blamed for this.
Any way, great way to thank your readers and one improvement from previous month, no repetition in Important contributors list :D

Sriraj´s last blog post..Clerks vacancies in Karur Vysya Bank

    • Lillie says:

      Sriraj,

Glad you’re done with your Internet problems and look forward to more comments from you this month.

After you pointed out my mistake last month, I was extra careful this month to get it right. :-)

  8. Cath Lawson says:

Hi Lillie – Thanks for including me. That’s a lot of comments. I like it when you do this as it gives me some interesting blogs to check out. It must take you a long time to put together.

    • Lillie says:

      Cath,

It used to take a long time to put it together, but I improve the system each time, and it took only a few minutes to put this one together.

I keep a spreadsheet in Excel throughout the month listing all commenters, their URLs, and the date(s) they comment. I update the list every time I moderate comments—it doesn’t take much time each time I moderate, and I have all the information in the spreadsheet by the end of the month.

Then when I’m putting the post together, I add a column and enter the number of comments. Since most are only one comment, it doesn’t take long—I fill in the numbers greater than one then copy and paste many rows of “1″ at a time. Then I sort by the number of comments from largest to smallest. Then I copy the first two columns of the spreadsheet (commenter name and URL) into Dreamweaver (any HTML editor would work). I use the previous month’s post so the headings are in place; all I have to do is delete the table rows from the previous month; then copy and paste in the table rows from this month. The last step is to copy the HTML code into the WordPress code editor.

Writing out the explanation took almost as long as doing it does. :-)

  9. That was a lot of work compiling your list. Great idea.

    Morgan Mandel

    • Lillie says:

      Morgan,

It’s taken many iterations to get the system down, but now it’s pretty quick and easy to compile the list.

  10. Jordan says:

lillie,It is my first time that i saw a blogger to thank the commentors in this way.I am sure more and more visitors will come to subscribe your blog because your are so kind.

    • Lillie says:

Thank you, Jordan. I am not the only blogger to regularly thank my commenters, but I probably get more comments than most who write monthly thanks posts because this is a DoFollow blog. I enjoy the conversations and appreciate comments.

  11. Andrew says:

    Thanks for the mention Lillie,

I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog and participating in your discussions.

I look forward to reading more from you during the rest of May.

Andrew´s last blog post..Animal testing – a positive EU proposal to eliminate unnecessary suffering

    • Lillie says:

You’re welcome, Andrew. Thank you for the comment. I thoroughly enjoy having you participate here.

  12. wilson says:

Lillie, how’s your living life? With the existence of A H1N1, life would not be the same anymore in my living place! :(

I wished you all the best and the most importantly, may god always blessing you…

    • Lillie says:

Thank you, wilson. The virus has not affected us. I seldom get out normally but haven’t seen anything out of the ordinary. God bless you and everyone around you. Let’s pray this virus goes away soon.

  13. C McCoffee from espresso makers says:

that is a really creative way to show all the work that goes into an online community and blog.

    • Lillie says:

      C,

My blog wouldn’t be what it is without all the readers and commenters. It’s no fun talking to myself. :-)

  14. Tom says:

Yes, thank you for the acknowledgement. It’s tremendously kind of you and such a great idea. I can imagine a WP plugin written for this purpose exactly.

    • Lillie says:

      You’re welcome, Tom.

If you find a WP plugin that does this, please let me know. I have not been able to get the Top Commentators plugin to work on my blog, but I believe it counts the total number of comments. I haven’t found anything that has the option of counting for a specific time period.

  15. Kurt from Bali Car Rental says:

Wow…great idea i will do this to my blog..

Kurt´s last blog post..Rental Terms and Conditions

    • Lillie says:

      Kurt,

I can’t take credit for the idea. I borrowed it from other bloggers. But it is a great way to show commenters you appreciate them.

  17. Jase from Insurance Leads says:

Kudos to you and hats off, rarely do you see a fellow blogger thanking and rewarding the effort of those who leave comments – like this post. Might have to browse around and see if I can make it to the next list …

  18. Mike says:

You don’t see bloggers giving shoutouts to people who comment all that often. It’s a very cool idea, I may have to try it myself.

Mike´s last blog post..Car Insurance Goes Up On Tricked Out Cars

    • Lillie says:

      Mike,

I got this idea from other bloggers who regularly thank commenters—I know several that do so.

  19. Dharma from Bali Wedding says:

nice idea…but how you do it…how you sum up those? please share…

    • Lillie says:

      Dharma,

I explained this to a previous commenter, but it takes a while to dig through all the comments to find it. So I’ll just copy and paste it below.

I keep a spreadsheet in Excel throughout the month listing all commenters, their URLs, and the date(s) they comment. I update the list every time I moderate comments—it doesn’t take much time each time I moderate, and I have all the information in the spreadsheet by the end of the month.

The last step is to copy the HTML code into the WordPress code editor.

Writing out the explanation took almost as long as doing it does.

  20. Lea from assurance hypotheque says:

This is indeed a very good thing to do in order to thank the people who had contributed into your site. Gratitude builds relationships.
