He Is Risen! He Is Risen Indeed!

April 12, 2009 by Lillie

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’ “

~ Mark 16:1-7

He is risen and He shall reign forever and ever! Hallejah!

    Lillie,

    I love that song.

Too often, the resurrection is viewed as a bit of an afterthought during the Easter break, and I love songs like this that provide a timely reminder of how Christ did not stay dead on the cross.

Instead, he is rose again to be with the father in heaven, a truly marvelous and wonderful cause for celebration.

  4. Hallelujah! That was a great song. I have the best Easter experience this year because this is the fist time I attended an easter vigil. I’m now looking forward to celebrating it again next year.

That’s a lovely passage. I can’t imagine how Mary felt.

    • Lillie says:

      Amy,

I read a book recently, a novel by Francine Rivers, about Mary. Although it was fiction, I think she captured many of the emotions Mary must have gone through in the years between being told by the angel she would be the mother of the Son of God and watching her grown child die on the cross.

This is certainly a fitting post to read on Christmas Day because it shows the result of the birth of that little baby in Bethlehem on Christmas.

I love Easter. This is not because of all of the candy and bunnies but I feel like I have a renewed love for Jesus. For him to sacrifice his life just for me brings tears to my eyes every time I think about it. I love the Lord!

  17. Lillie, i have never heard of Nazareth called Nazarene.

    • Lillie says:

      lou,

Nazareth is not called Nazarene. In the passage from Mark quoted above (and many other places in the Bible as well), Jesus is called “the Nazarene” (meaning a person from Nazareth).

  18. Tom from Design Chester says:

For as long as I can remember every Easter we take our Easter eggs put them in plastic bags and then roll them down the stairs (rolling of the rock). I am now 25 and I am still doing it. My kids will be doing the same. It is a shame that some people only see Easter as what they can get and not the real reason.

  19. en from BWedding Photography Sydney says:

I love that song. I just hope that people would treat every day like an easter day. So, people will be reminded that Jesus sacrificed his life for us to be saved. We wouldn’t be here without Him. Thanks to you!!!

    • Lillie says:

      Ben,

Your comment made me think of this thought-provoking question: If I were on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict me? I pray there’s always more than enough evidence of my being a Christian.

  20. Mark Jacob says:

    Thank You :D

I certainly enjoyed reading your passage!
