Blog Book Tour Stop: Second Visit to Father Jerry’s Jottings

December 5, 2008 by Lillie

Today I’m back at Father Jerry’s Jottings with the conclusion of my two-part series on blogging: Blogging for Beginners. I’m sure most of my readers know everything I’ve covered in this introductory post, and I know you can add some tips I didn’t mention. Stop by Father Jerry’s blog and give your best advice to beginning bloggers.

Some very interesting posts, Lillie. I don’t know how you keep going, like the Eveready rabbit. I’m tired after only six tour stops. :)

Jean,
I will be giving my report on my first tour on blogbooktours as well as here on my blog. One of the things I will say is that I think 10 stops (every weekday for two weeks) is about the max. Not only does the author get tired—it is a lot of work as you’ve discovered—but I think readers get tired and the later tour stops don’t generate as much interest as the early ones.

I had the this mini-tour this week because I had bloggers who wanted to be included in the first tour, and I cut it off after three weeks. In retrospect, I would recommend two tours of two weeks each but further apart than mine.

It’s a balance between plenty of exposure and wearing folks out.

You always get to go to so many places because of your work. I hope to be like that some day, but it won’t be for awhile. Good job!

Thanks, Justin. I find that many bloggers welcome guest posts if the topic is related to the topic of their blog. That’s why I’ve written about blogging, novel writing, submitting manuscripts, and a variety of other topics—all somehow related to writing—to meet the needs of the host blogs.

Hi, are there resources or lists of blogs that welcome guest writers/guest posts? I have seen one or two blogs where there are guest writers but not a place to easily find them.

Thanks in advance!

Lex,
I don’t know of a place to easily find blogs that are open to guest posts. There are so many blogs on so many topics a list probably wouldn’t be especially helpful to someone trying to reach a specific audience.

I’m going to write more about blog book tours and how to find hosts next week.

But in general, the best thing to do is to target blogs that would be good for your subject matter. Visit the blogs and comment regularly so the bloggers get to know you. Then simply e-mail the blogger and ask if s/he is open to guest posts.

Some bloggers may be open but have never advertised the fact; some may not have considered guest posts would be willing if you approach them, especially if they know you from comments and recognize that you know your subject and are articulate.
