Blog Book Tour Visit to Father Jerry’s Jottings
December 2, 2008 by Lillie
Today’s stop is a special treat for me. Father Jerry Sherbourne was my priest at All Saints Anglican Church before he joined the Army as a chaplain. I gave him a blog as a going-away gift, and he wasn’t quite sure what to do with this unexpected present. I describe his reaction in today’s guest post: Starting a Blog.
Though he was skeptical at first, Father Jerry is now an enthusiastic blogger, and he asked me to give some advice to his readers who are interested in starting their own blog. Stop by and say hi.

What a fantastic idea for a gift! Since you said he was quite unsure what to do with it when he first got his blog, it sure seems like he really has taken off with it as I was skimming through. With the holidays almost here, that is a very creative gift recommendation!
Shaant,
Yes, although Father Jerry wasn’t quite sure to do with his blog, when he tried it, he found it was a great way to stay in touch with family and friends. He has written some excellent posts of interest to people beyond his own circle, but that was the beginning point.
This was one of the best gifts I’ve given—not only did the recipient (finally) love it, but I benefitted as well because I was able to keep up with my friend more than if I had relied on personal communication. Father Jerry couldn’t have written everyone who wanted to know what was happening with him while he was deployed. But he got the word to everyone with one posting.
This would be a good gift for anyone in the military, college, or anywhere away from home as well as for people who have moved and want to maintain contact with a lot of people who aren’t close by. It would also be good for someone who wants to promote a cause or educate others.
Bloggers can come up with many reasons for blogging, and anyone with one or more of those reasons would be a good person to give a blog.
Hi, i think a blog is always a real nice gift, I gave some to my friends last christmas, and all of them are very ethusiastic bloggers today.
Please excuse my English is not the best,
love Suse
Suse,
I thought that was a very unusual gift. I didn’t know others had done it as well. Did you pay for the hosting and domain registration and set up WordPress for your friends?
