Seven Things I’m Thankful For
November 26, 2008 by Lillie
Luke Gedeon is sponsoring a group writing project for Thanksgiving: Seven Things I’m Thankful For. Luke will link to all the posts, and his post will be excellent reading for Thanksgiving Day (or the day after Thanksgiving or any time).
In his sermon last Sunday, our priest said, “I’m so tired of people calling it Turkey Day. It’s Thanksgiving Day, a day to give thanks to Almighty God.”
This Thanksgiving—and every day—I will thank God for these seven things:
- Family: I’ve written about my parents and siblings and about my husband Jack. I have been incredibly blessed with my family of origin and in my marriage.
- Friends: Both online and offline friends bring joy to my life, and I grateful for them.
- Work: God has blessed me with a little talent and a lot of perseverance so I can earn a living doing what I love—writing and helping other writers.
- Provision: We have plenty of food (more than enough as you can tell if you look at us), a comfortable home, and everything we need to enjoy a happy life.
- Freedom: We are so fortunate to live in a land where we can practice our faith and freely express our opinions. I am grateful for our servicemen and women and our veterans for ensuring that we remain free.
- Miracles: I have experienced many miracles in my life, including surviving an attack by a Doberman and recovering from a stroke, Most recently, I have been healed of a severe seizure disorder. I will write more about this miracle in a future post.
- Salvation: My faith sustains me, and I am so thankful that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my salvation and that I will spend eternity with God. I pray that you also have this assurance of salvation.
What are you thankful for?

This is a beautiful and necessary post. We often forget how much we have to be grateful for. I have been housebound due to a chronic illness for many years, but my list looks very much like yours in spite of it (my list is here http://www.best-juicing.com/about-us.php
What I would like to add to your list, is our sense of humor. Can you imagine what life would have been like if we couldn’t laugh or couldn’t see the lighter side of life? For me, this is a biggie.

Rika Susan,
A sense of humor is important and does make a difference in our attitudes and our physical well-being also.
I read your list, and it reflects your positive attitude in spite of your illness. The Internet is such a blessing—in years past we wouldn’t be able to have much contact with the outside world when homebound. Now you can share your faith and enthusiasm for life and encourage other people.
Great list, I know you are meant to only have 7 but I would also add health and the fact that God didn’t leave us as orphans and that we are able to speak with him every day.
Gary
Gary,
Your suggestions are great additions to the list. We all have so many things to be thankful for; it’s a shame so many people look at what they don’t have instead of what they do have.
This is a nice list. Except your above mentioned seven things I am thankful to Mother Nature for providing us so many precious things.

Dassnagar,
A good addition to the list, nature provides beauty as well as food and the material for clothing, buildings, and many other things.
Hi Lille,
You’re one heck of a lucky and blessed lady. After going through this post I had no other choice than to read all links embedded on each of the seven blessings. People should be positive, prayerful and be thankful to God for whatever situation.
I surely will be visiting more often now.
Mon.
Monica,
I am very blessed, and I’m glad you that you will be visiting often!
Lillie,
Thank you for participating in this year’s Thanksgiving Group Writing project. It has been a great joy reading all of these.
Gary,
You are allowed to have more than seven. I suggested listing seven to get the creative juices flowing.
You can make your list as long as you like.
Today is the last official day of the project, but I will be adding others as they complete them, so it is not too late to join if you want to make a list of your own.
Rika Susan,
I added your list, too. Humor is one of God’s greatest gifts. I know He has a sense of because He made me.

Thank you for sponsoring the group writing project.
I enjoyed the challenge of choosing seven things to be thankful for though I know you said we could list as many as we wanted.
I am also enjoying hearing from others in comments about what they are thankful for.
I’m thankful for the life that God has given me and for my family and good friends around me.

William,
Those are excellent things to be thankful for. We often take those precious gifts for granted.
Thank you for the great post, Lillie. I’m thankful for so many things: my faith, regaining my health, my family and friends, the ability to write, a new book and blog tour coming up to promote it, a book trailer, a nice home and hope for the future.
Jean,
We all have much to be thankful for. I hope your blog book tour is a huge success, and I look forward to hosting you here.
Excellent post, thanks for reminding us of the real reason for thanksgiving. I have too much to be thankful for to even list, and I’m sure the same could be said for most people in America.
Josh,
You’re so right that we all have more things to be thankful for than we can list. I enjoyed participating in this group writing project to enumerate a few of them, but I have far more blessings than what I listed.
Thanks for the positive comments about my list, Lillie and Luke. Thanks also to all the other wonderful people responding to this thread. You made a valuable contribution here. This has been a really uplifting post for me and I would like to think that this is exactly what the internet should be for!

Rika,
I’m glad to add a positive note to the Internet. I appreciate Luke’s sponsoring this group writing project that makes us all focus on the many blessings we have.
Coming to think of it, life is beautiful. I love my family for always being there for me in good times and in bad
Matthew,
When we hear so much gloom and doom in the media, it’s encouraging to hear you say life is beautiful.
Hi Lillie,
Being thankful is a blessing in itself. I had to refocus my energies today because in the past couple of months they were more in negative mode than ever before since I started this business. However, I’m always thankful for my life and especially for my health (now that is is back on track).
I’m also thankful of love and the life I live. I truly feel blessed.

Monika,
I’m so glad your health is improving. One thing to be thankful for is all the concern and caring expressed by your readers during your illness.
I find your list of reasons to be thankful, to be a very upbeat post. Which makes for a nice change of pace. While at the same time allowing me to think about my own reasons to be thankful.

This is a fantastic post! The secret to life is to enjoy every moment of it because life is short and you do not know when it might end.
