All though recommendations are always best, if the cover art sucked it would not get very many spontaneous purchases. Haven't read this book, but will have to check it out.

Carrie,
You make a good point that recommendations from others are better for choosing a book than the cover. But a catchy cover does get our attention. And that's important to getting the reader to pick up the book and look at it more closely.

That was really interesting, and it explains why books and covers don't always match. I try really hard to not judge books by their covers, but when you're in a bookstore or a library and trying to pick one book out of hundreds, a catchy cover really can make a difference. Now that I have the internet and can get recommendations from like-minded readers, I find that I don't rely on cover art as much as when I was younger.
