Temporary Quarters
September 27, 2008 by Lillie
Well … kouji wished me only one hiccup in updating my blog and Web site. Though I have been delayed in finishing the project because I’ve been under the weather, everything had been going smoothly. I got everything pretty much the way I want it on my test site, but when I tried to transfer to the right domain, something went wrong. I have redirected the URL (lillieammann.com) to the test site (lillieammann.net) while I figure out the problem. Some images are missing, and some links don’t work.
As you can see, I have put the entire site on WordPress, the Revolution Pro Business theme. My Web site hadn’t been updated in ages—maybe I’ll keep it up better in WordPress instead of Dreamweaver.

Best of luck getting it all ironed out!
Thanks, Jake. I think I”ve got a handle on it, but I spent today catching up on projects that I’ve been ignoring the last few days between the blog upgrade and being under the weather. I needed to get caught up, and I thought it would be a good idea to take a short break from this as well.
WordPress is great, I can’t believe you weren’t using it before. By the way, this is a nice theme, very clean and readable, which is what a blog is supposed to be. Good job!
Well i now know something about your project. Anyway best of luck with it.
I know that things are still settling with the site, but do we have the general feel for the final look? I think it’s much more streamlined than the old site. I think the bigger image overpowered the page whereas this design allows the content to be the star. And I do love purple and yellow together…reminds of of my favorite flower, the iris!
Justin,
Thanks! I have always used WordPress, but I used to have a Web site on my domain, and the blog was installed in a separate directory. Now I am incorporating the Web site and blog on the root directory. So I un-installed WordPress and removed the separate directory and installed WordPress on the root directory. That’s when I encountered a problem.
Thanks, commenter from offshore hosting.
Jennifer,
Yes, what you see is the new design. It’s just on the right domain, and consequently some images are missing and some links don’t work. I’m glad you like the new theme.
Although you’ did faced some troubles when you’re trying to transfer your site to the new domain, but you’ve made it and I felt glad for you here, Lillie
Thank you, Wilson! I still have a few things to do—my blogroll didn’t import so I have to re-create it, and some of the plugins (such as Brian’s Threaded Comments) don’t work. Maybe they won’t work with this theme.
Lillie, nice work! I hope you get the domain and link issues sorted out soon. I’m sure there will be some teething problems as you work out what does and doesn’t work with the theme… I know I’m still going through some
But it will all be worth it to enjoy your crisp new site with everything in the one place.
Thanks, Joanna. I just got into the right domain and am tweaking a few things. As you say, it will take awhile to figure out what does and doesn’t work.
It’s always more complicated when you use your own domain. WordPress is nice, eh?
Andy,
.
I’ve always used WordPress on my own domain, but I had it in a separate directory and the rest of my site in the root directory. So I had to remove the separte directory, remove all the old content, install WordPress into the root directory, incorporate the site content into WordPress, and import all my blog posts and comments from the old WordPress. I’d obviously exported before removing the original installation.
A kind of a problem that I consider to be temporary.
Johnnie,
You can see the problem was temporary, and things are getting back to normal.
It sounds like quite the hassle, but I’m sure you see the benefit of having wordpress throughout will certainly pay off over time–or in fact may have already.
Cheers
Mike
Mike,
Yes, this is much better. I’ve wanted to do it for a long time, but I didn’t take the time away from client projects to work on it until my book was coming out. That was the incentive I needed to get busy.
Nice new look, congrats!
Thank, Stu. I’m glad you like it.
wordpress is the best!!
Novan,
I love WordPress!
