Labor Day
September 1, 2008 by Lillie
Labor Day, the first Monday is September, is set aside to honor American workers. Although it was started by the labor movement for union workers, I think all workers—blue collar, white collar, professional, union or non-union—deserve recognition … and a day of rest.
Enjoy your holiday, fellow workers.

Happy labor day, Lillie.
Would you mind to tell us, where have you been today?

In other countries like the Philippines, labor day is celebrated on May 1. Instead of festivities, workers go out in the streets and march out airing their grievances. This is also the time when government usually gives the go-signal for wage hikes. A lot of job fair are also sponsored during this day. Anyway, I salute the workers including myself for keeping the dignity of labor alive.
Absolutely! To those who work hard, Happy Labor Day! May it be a day of relaxation for you.
wilson,
I’m glad you missed me, and I’m really glad I was off reading and spending time with my husband.
That’s interesting to hear about labor day in the Philippines. All of us who work deserve that salute you’re giving, including yourself.
I hope everyone had a lovely relaxing day as I did.
Thanks Lillie – I hope you rested and had a nice day with friends/family also!
Thank you, Bonnie. I had to take care of a little business, but I spent most of the day relaxing.
I need a labor day, or rather, a no-labor day! But I’m not sure stay-at-home moms ever get a break!
Hope your day was relaxing!

I had a nice Labor Day with the family. We grilled chicken and ate some other food. The weather was nice, so all was good. Now back to a four day work week…
Hmm, now I feel guilty because I didn’t really rest on Labor Day. Ah well, maybe next year (hopefully next weekend!)
I usually work on Labor Day, simply because I work for myself (self employed). However this year I made an exception and went to the beach with a few friends
.
Renae,
Moms never get a rest … but hope you got to spend some fun time with family.
Tina,
Sounds like you had a great day. Hope you have a good 4-day work week.
Melissa,
I confess I didn’t take the whole day off. I had to get my tax information together for the CPA. I know, I know—the deadline was April 15 but the extended deadline is October 15, and my CPA said he needed the information this week to meet that extended deadline. And I did a couple of billable hours of work, but I did take some time to relax with my husband and to read a little. My guess is that most of us freelancers seldom take a complete day off.
Good for you for spending the day at the beach with friends! As I said above, I suspect that most freelancers and small business owners seldom take a full day off, but we need some down time just like everyone else.
thank you, fellow worker. i hope you were able to relax a bit. quite nice to be able to sit back, put up my feet, and do nothing for a while…

Hi Lillie, was yesterday’s reading and spending time with your hubby so good that you decided to extend it?

kouji,
Yes, it is nice to take a break every now and then. Glad you got some down time.
Robyn,
Ahh… afraid not. I’ve been putting out fires and handling urgent matters all day. One of the things I was dealing with is very exciting—making the final decision on the art work for the cover of my novel, getting the artist to make a few last minute tweaks, and getting it to the publisher to get to the cover designer so it will be ready on time.
I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend!
I had a lovely weekend even though I worked part of the time. I slowed down and took it easy for part of the time as well.
I think on that day all workers, deserve recognition … and a day of rest.on that day evey body should take rest be sure stay at home.
You’re right we all need rest. A lot of people prefer to shop, party, visit friends, or do something other than rest on holidays.
