Welcome back, Joanna!
August 25, 2008 by Lillie
Joanna Young at Confident Writing first moved her blog from Typepad to WordPress, then she immediately moved her home. She’s been offline for a week during the move, and some of her blogging friends are all saying ”Welcome back!” today.
Joanna’s tagline is “Because our words count,” and her site is
… full of writing tips and virtual coaching from … Joanna Young. It’s a site not just for writers but for anyone who wants or needs to write with confidence.
If you aren’t already a fan, you might enjoy some of my favorite posts from Joanna:

And if you’re already a fan, join me in saying “Welcome back, Joanna.”

Hi Lillie, Like me, you had some trouble narrowing it down to one favorite Joanna post. “What I Learned from My Cat” is another excellent choice!

Lillie, thanks so much for these kind words. I’m feeling quite overwhelmed today by all this kindness! But in a nice way
Joanna
PS My cat will be very pleased with the selection of that post!

Brad,
I couldn’t narrow it down to three favorites—I had a hard time narrowing it down to 3!
Joanna,
Glad you’re overwhelmed in a nice way. You deserve the recognition as you are such a generous blogger yourself.
Lillie,
What a wonderful project! Isn’t it great to be part of it? There’s certainly no question that Joanna deserves the warm reception she’s received and the heartfelt sentiments her return has elicited!
Jeanne
Lillie, I was not familiar with Joanna’s site. However, anyone who realizes the many lessons to be learned from cats (take long naps often, demand cuddles only when YOU want them, never let the world forget that cats rule) is someone worth checking out. Thanks for the link, I’m heading over there now~
I know you’ll enjoy Joanna’s site. She has a wonderful blog.
Jeanne,
You’re so right that Joanna deserves the recognition. She, like you, is one of the most generous bloggers I know. Thanks for being part of the welcome back for her.
How sweet of you to say that, Lillie! But, I have to turn that compliment right back to you! I’ve always found you to be generous and gracious to your readers–which no doubt helps to explain the large number of comments your posts receive!
Lillie, what a great circle we’ve had to welcome Joanna back. I find it interesting to note the posts you list that you found most helpful. Since she’s chock full of great writing tips, there’s something for everyone at her site.

Jeanne,
We seem to have a mutual admiration society here.
Robyn,
Yes, welcoming Joanna back was a great project. And it is interesting to see everyone’s favorites—all her posts are so great, it’s hard to pick favorites.
In a sense, that’s what blog communities are all about!
Lillie, it is hard to pick the best. I sense that Joanna has some new ones warming in the back burner of her mind right now. I look forward to her next ones…

Lillie, I love your choices! We writers can never choose just one, can we?
It has been so much fun joining in with all of you to celebrate.

Robyn,
I’m sure you’re right. She just keeps getting better and better.
Karen,
Celebrating Joanna’s return has been fun.
Everything seems to be better in threes.
Jeanne,
That’s right. We follow and comment on the blogs of people we admire, and often they follow and comment on ours because we have shared interests.
And we really do tend to share a mutual admiration for one another. That’s what makes a blog’s community so…cohesive.
Jeanne,
I’ve heard of terrible things happening in the blogosphere—even to threats of physical danger. Yet in my experience, the blogosphere is a friendly place filled with talented, generous, and caring people. Maybe I’ve just been extremely blessed to be part of the a wonderful community of special bloggers. Hopefully those bad experience are isolated cases.
On one hand, like the wider world, the blogosphere contains many people we would never want to meet. Yet, on the other, it also contains many who enrich our lives in untold ways. The key is to recognize which group is which, avoid the first, and embrace the second.
Jeanne,
—in recognizing and embracing the second group!
I’ve been incredibly wise—rather incredibly lucky
Hi Lillie – wasn’t she brave doing both moves at once? I’m glad Joanna’s back and the move went well. It seems strange thinking of her blogging away on a little island.

The privilege of interacting with the second group certainly is a blessing!
Cath,
I lived on the farm I grew up on until I went to college, lived in the college dorm while in school, then married and moved into the house my husband and I still live in … 41+ years later! I can’t imagine doing what Joanna has done.
Jeanne,
You are so right. I had no idea when I started blogging that I would make so many wonderful new friends.
I just dropped Joanna’s blog, ConfidentWriting a visit and also have greeted her as well…
No matter what Joanna’s decided to do, I will always supports her.
PS: Lillie, I also saw your name at Joanna’s blog “welcome back” comment area
Joanna has without a doubt, the most loving and loyal fan base I’ve ever seen! It’s incredible, she must be the most lovely blogger in the world. I guess I’ll go read for myself.
Lillie,
Though I do not know Joanna, I say that if YOU say that Joanna requires a visit, I’m going! On Lillie’s say-so,
“WELCOME BACK JOANNA! I MISSED YOU, THOUGH I HAD NO IDEA YOU WERE GONE!”
Rita
wilson,
I’m glad you visited Joanna’s blog and welcomed her. Thanks for noticing my link in the comments.
Joanna is special as you can tell from reading all the accolades from her fans.
Rita,
LOL! You would have missed her if you had known her. Now you’ll come to know her so you’ll miss her if she’s ever gone again.
I love her What I Learned from My Cat about the Writing Life post. She seems to keep all her posts short, sweet, and straight to the point, which is great when you’re trying to learn how to write. She doesn’t seem to bore us with grammar or this that or the other…I’ve bookmarked her right along with your site! Now neither of you better leave and make me miss you.
I love the cat post also. Joanna focuses on things like confidence and intention and leaves the grammar and technical writing skills to someone else. And the things she focuses on are things that most writers really need.
