There are several reasons for this: 1) since I work mostly at night, most people are sleeping when I’m working and vice-versa so I have to adjust my schedule for phone calls; 2) writing an e-mail gives me an opportunity to think through what I’m saying and to write it clearly – I’m more effective in written than in oral communication; 3) an e-mail creates a permanent record of what was said so there’s no confusion later of who said what.

This is probably a common situation. I’m really overtaxed right now with lots of work.

I completely agree with you on this one. I’ve taken on too much at once because I can’t say no or I don’t think about saying something like, “I can’t do this for you now, but I can in 2 weeks.”
