Read and Comment Day
April 28, 2008 by Lillie
Chris Broggan has declared today, Monday, April 28th, “Read and Comment” day. Chris encourages bloggers to read other blogs and comment rather than – or in addition to – posting.
Find some good stuff and add to it.
I’m off to “find some good stuff.” How about you?

I didn’t know we needed a special day for it. I’m doing it every day now.
RT Cunningham’s last blog post..Why Your WordPress Blog Isn’t Receiving Pings
RT,
You’re right–we should be reading and commenting regularly. But a reminder is always helpful. I’ve been extremely busy lately and haven’t commented as much as I usually do, so I’m going to use this day to get back in the habit of commenting more.
Hi Lillie,
Are you aware that the comment URLs are now “nofollow”? Perhaps it did that when you installed the CommentLuv plugin.
RT Cunningham’s last blog post..Why Your WordPress Blog Isn’t Receiving Pings
No, RT, I didn’t know that. Can you tell me what to do to fix it? I checked the configuration and see that I had a 1 day delay. Something must have changed that when I installed CommentLuv or when I upgraded to WP 2.5. I set it back to no delay. I also saw there was an upgrade to CommentLuv, and I did that. How can I tell if Do Follow is working?
I see that it’s fixed. Well, I use the Firefox SearchStatus add-on to show nofollow URLs as highlighted. I don’t know if you if you use Firefox, but I don’t think there’s an add-on for MSIE, Opera or Safari.
RT Cunninghams last blog post..Why Your WordPress Blog Isn’t Receiving Pings
Thanks, RT. I use IE so can’t use the add-on you describe.
Great idea. It’s true–I don’t leave comments as often as I would like to. There are days (weeks!) when I’m lucky I get to READ forget about adding my voice to the conversation (grin).
Deb,
That’s the problem with so many great blogs … we just can’t keep up. I like reading feeds because I can get through a lot more blogs, but it does make it more difficult to leave comments. Sometimes I don’t bother to click through to the blog to comment when I might leave a comment if it didn’t take that little extra effort.
I regularly comment on blogs without needing encouragement or a special day to do that, Lillie. This is one habit I started quite some time ago and I haven’t let up. Good to see at least one other blogger recognizing the value of comment posting!
I admit that I often get caught up in life and work and forget to visit blogging friends. But today I decided to do that and the first one I went to was yours, Lillie. And, whatdoyaknow, it’s visit other blogs day! Hi Lillie!

Matt,
I admire your commenting and your stumbling! I usually do a lot of commenting – though not a lot of stumbling – but lately I have been so overwhelmed with deadlines that I have slacked up a little, though not a day goes by that I don’t leave a few comments.
Hi Ginger,
I’m glad you chose today to visit and comment. Hope you make it to lots of blogs today.
Making posts and reading other blogs is something I don’t do together. There simply isn’t enough time for that. so I usually take one day just to browse around and find interesting blogs while making some comments.
I guess I don’t want that blog becomes my job – I want to be relaxed and do it with passion and feeling.

Oops, I’m a day behind. Ironically I was trying to use today as a day to go out commenting and I found your post saying it was yesterday! Always a day late and a dollar short
Lisas last blog post..I Need a Miracle for my Hubby
Wow! You sure are ambitious, Lillie! How do you do it, anyway? I’m happy to get a small blog post with a baby around!
I’m back to writing again, so hope to see you at my blog some time soon!
Have a great day!
Lisa
Lisas last blog post..Back to the Grind
Lisa,
Congratulations on the baby! I wouldn’t get much done if I had a baby around either, but I’ve never had that blessing. Enjoy your little bundle of joy.
Lisa,
It’s never too late to read and comment! I think the idea for the day was just a reminder – sometimes we get so busy that we don’t get around to reading and commenting as much as we’d like. So as long as you’re doing it, you’re fulfilling the spirit of the day.
There was no need for a special day for it. I am a blogger myself but before I write my blog I read and comment on a dozen other blogs everyday..
Faraz,
That’s great that you read and comment regularly. I subscribe to more than 100 blogs, so I don’t comment on all of them regularly, but I do try to comment on some every day.
Lillie,
Sorry I missed this! I’ve been so incredibly busy lately that I just haven’t managed to “make the rounds”! But, I love your blog and feel it offers so much value to your readers. I can definitely tell your heart is in it!
Thanks for visiting and commenting at Writer’s Notes whenever you can!
Jeanne
Jeanne,
Being busy is good – if the things you’re busy with are good, that is. I think Read and Comment Day was to motivate people who don’t normally read and comment to do so. But for a world-class commenter like you, it was just a reminder – if you didn’t get a chance to do it on that day, you’ll make up for it another day.
Well clearly I’ve found some good stuff because I’ve found this blog, and am having fun reading and commenting myself. Sounds like a good idea of a day to me!

Si,
Glad you found this and are reading and commenting even though it’s way past the day.
Comments make your blog traffic higher if you put your blog links there .. comment also makes the people that read your comments could see your blog and share information together
Richard,
Yes, comments are a good way for people to find out about your blog.
Nice one… I am so grateful that you would allow us to comment on your blog post. Blog commenting is one great way to get a higher traffic in your site that you promoted. Looking forward to the next blog post..
Tony,
You had look a long way to find this old post.
Hope you read current offerings as well.
Gillian,
I understand – I want to keep blogging fun, also. For me, it’s strictly a hobby so I don’t want it to become work.
