Amazing Grace

This is the most powerful rendition of Amazing Grace I’ve ever heard along with a fascinating bit of history about Negro spirituals, white spirituals, and the “slave scale.”

Self-Publishing Can Pay Off … Big-Time

February 5, 2008 by Lillie

Straight from Hel shared a self-publishing story that should encourage us all, even though most self-published authors don’t have this kind of success. Brunonia Barry self-published her novel then landed a huge publishing contract. Her agent turned down the first seven-figure offer from a major company and held a three-day auction. The result: a contract for more than $2 million dollars from William Morrow!

Salem author self-publishes herself into a novel $2m payday

Don’t start planning how to spend your two million dollars … but read everything this author did that led to her self-publishing success: everything recommended in the Self-Publishing Primer plus hiring a publicist that led to finding a distributor and getting a rave review in Publisher’s Weekly.

I’m back!

February 5, 2008 by Lillie

I apologize if you tried to access my blog yesterday or this morning and got a strange “file download” message instead of the blog.

February 4, 2008 by Lillie

Part 3 in the series of podcasts in which Phil Davis of Authors on the Net interviews me about the Self-Publishing Primer is available now.

You’ll want to listen in order, so if you’ve missed Parts 1 and 2, listen to them first. Next week will be the fourth and final podcast in the series.

Your Thoughts on Series

February 1, 2008 by Lillie

I’ve always written series posts consecutively (as the editing series just completed). However, I’ve noticed that other blogs spread their series over a longer period of time, writing an installment in the series once a week or so and interspersing the series with posts on other topics.

Since I plan to write a series each month, I’d like to know which you prefer. Please answer the poll question below and give your reasons in comments. Thanks!

2/7/08 I had to delete this poll because BlogPoll.com (or its Web host) was hijacking my blog. When I tried to access my own blog, I was redirected to a page that said BlogPoll.com’s domain had expired.

The last time I checked the results, the responses were about 60% for consecutive series and about 40% for series posts interspersed with other posts.
