Looking for a dream job?

August 5, 2006 by Lillie

One of my interests is network marketing. Not only have I been a part-time network marketer since 1996, but I’ve also written a book about network marketing for the Dream Jobs to Go series. Updated June 2007: Dream Jobs to Go has gone out of business, but the blog mentioned below is still active.

Michael Werner, the Dream Jobs publisher, has recently started a blog – Dream Jobs Dialog. He posts information about specific “dream jobs” as well as great advice on finding and following your passion … plus a lot of other good stuff.

Michael interviewed me for a recent post. If you’re interested in network marketing – or curious about me – click on over and read the interview.

You’ll also find an interview of Dana Cassell on becoming a freelance writer and several other articles on writing. Since you’re reading this blog, chances are you’ll also enjoy the Dream Jobs Dialog.

  1. Thanks for the links. But could you also explain what network marketing is all about?

I couldn’t have said it any better Lillie. Its usually rough in the beginning, but after time, the benefits from mlm are better than any other business model imo, and this is coming from a Real Estate investor :)

  3. Lillie says:

As you say, network marketing is hard in the beginning—that’s why such a small percentage of network marketers do what it takes to get the big payoff down the line.

  4. iza Brown (career advice expert) from LJob Search Engine says:

Network marketing does not match everyone. This type of activity will be interesting for those people who are not only interested in earnings or additional job but are also sociable ones. Only in this case it’s possible to count on good results.

    • Lillie says:

      Liza,

Certainly outgoing, sociable people find it easier to do network marketing. However, I’ve seen all personality types do well—it depends on the motivation. If someone really believes in the products and wants to make a good income (secondary or primary), they can learn the skills. Good network marketing companies provide excellent training and support.

  6. Jamie from network marketing says:

One of the best ways to promote your products is through network marketing. People are doing it all the time without even realizing it. From talking about a sale they were just at or how wonderful their new shampoo is…news will travel.

    • Lillie says:

      Jamie,

Although I’m not seriously involved in network marketing, I do believe it is a great way for individuals to become successful.

  7. Lillie says:

Most people recognize Amway – that’s a network marketing company. I’m not promoting the particular business – just pointing out a well-known example. I am affiliated with Waiora, a company that offers wonderful nutritional supplements.

Network marketing is also known as multi-level marketing because network marketers recruit others to join the company under them and are paid for the “levels” below them.

Some people believe network marketing is a pyramid scheme, but it isn’t. You can find an excellent explanation of network marketing at Entrepreneur.com.

Network marketing is a serious business, both as a side income and as a full-time career. But it does take work and commitment, just like any other business. The most successful network marketers join a company with products they truly believe in. Being passionate is a key to success in any kind of business.
